Cecilia Gonzalez Rodriguez started her career as a marketer for a large biopharmaceutical company. After studying the discipline for several years and securing degrees from various universities and schools, she believed she was well-positioned for a long and successful marketing career.

But within one year of joining the company, Cecilia was contacted about a role with BD, a company that she was unaware of at the time. Little did she know just how much the trajectory of her career would change from that one exchange with a recruiter.

“The opportunity to improve my clinical and commercial knowledge was one of the deciding factors in why I accepted the role of Value Solution Consultant at BD in 2006,” explained Cecilia. “My plan was actually to stay with BD for a couple of years and then go back into the pharma industry, but I ended up staying with BD for five years, after which I left to work for a large distributor of pharmaceuticals.”

But Cecilia would not remain employed by the distributor for long. In 2015, a former colleague from BD contacted her about an Account Manager role in Life Sciences. Immediately, Cecilia saw an opportunity to once again level-up her skills and obtain more client exposure, while enhancing her existing marketing skills – so she came back to BD.

In 2019, BD created a new business unit, Integrated Diagnostic Solutions (IDS) and Cecilia was provided the opportunity to become a Sales Manager for IDS covering the Spanish market., a role she still holds today and truly enjoys.

In her role, Cecilia is responsible for products and solutions that help create more efficiency and optimize the daily work of healthcare providers in the Spanish market. When she considers her daily contribution and the impact BD has on patients around the world, she believes the diagnostic stage is important to any patient’s journey because it’s where it all starts. She firmly believes that the right diagnosis helps identify the appropriate course of care when patients need it the most.

“In 2011, I had the opportunity to travel to Africa with other BD associates as we participated in volunteer work. It was such a humbling but gratifying experience – seeing our products and solutions used to help the local community reinforced our purpose of advancing the world of healthTM in such a tangible and meaningful way. It’s an experience I will never forget,” said Cecilia.

As Cecilia reflects on her day-to-day contributions and work at BD, one of the most exciting aspects of her role is participating in new projects, where she can learn even more about her customers – their challenges and needs – and help think through solutions she knows can help them improve their efficiency in supporting both healthcare professionals and patients.

When asked how to describe BD, “progress” instantly comes to mind for Cecilia. “BD is a company that has grown so much over the years. It’s exciting to see the level of growth, learning and development opportunities here. You can literally take your career wherever you’d like and carve a career path that is unique to you at BD, which is exciting,” Cecilia concluded.
