Business units

The Life Sciences segment comprises two business units:

Biosciences

BD Biosciences is a leading provider of high-quality flow cytometry and single-cell genomics solutions, scientific research, and clinical laboratories. We are leading the way by developing technologies that allow for a closer look at the details of cells and diseases.


Our work in Biosciences

Our work is changing the way the world looks at an individual cell. Every day, we partner with our customers to help reveal the identity and function of billions of cells, one at a time. Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality around the world – an estimated six million occur each year across the United States, Europe, and Japan alone. At BD, we’re committed to applying our expertise, resources, and technologies to the prevention of healthcare-associated infections.

Our menu of molecular diagnostics assays rapidly identifies microorganisms that cause HAIs, while our multi-dimensional approach to tackling HIV/AIDS in the developing world allows us to make a significant impact in the fight against the disease. Our goal is to improve our technology and make it more accessible, pioneer new solutions and systems, drive competitive differentiation, develop broader insights into cells, and ingrain our ways of working globally.

Integrated Diagnostic Solutions

The medical world is evolving, and we’re evolving with it. By aligning and simplifying our work, our integrated diagnostic solutions business unit aims to drive growth and innovation around everything from integrated specimen management to diagnostic solutions. Our vision is to reinvest in our innovation pipeline with the help of best-in-class technologies and varied expertise, ensuring a future that puts our laboratory customers first.

The thousands of decisions that healthcare providers are faced with every day can be challenging. With advanced technology designed for accuracy and efficiency for clinical and industrial applications, our solutions help customers realize the transformative impact of trusted results. Our products are designed for the safe collection and transport of diagnostics specimens, as well as instruments that accurately detect a broad range of infectious diseases, healthcare-associated infections, and cancers. We also play host to the BD Vacutainer® and Microtainer® brands.

From being at the forefront of developing the first capabilities for flow cytometry to creating a genomics platform that's laser focused on providing end-to-end solutions for researchers and clinicians in the rapidly growing genomics market, we've been part of the fabric of Life Sciences for decades and are continuing to expand into high-growth, high-impact markets.
