Job Description Summary

The Lead Operator meets all requirements of Level 1 and 2. Consistently applies in-depth knowledge of processes, equipment and knowledge of lean principles, to influence daily workflow of unit that includes coordination of work and ability to coordinate resolution of minor issues and escalate more complex issues in timely manner to mitigate line stoppages and/or defects. As Lead Operator, coordinates with and supports training Team for assessments for operators within the assigned unit. Partners with Unit Trio to coordinate continuous improvement activities to maximize line efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:(Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)

Responsibilities in manufacturing unit include but are not limited to:

  • Independently consistently completes Level 1and2tasks 

  • Proficient inoperatingall equipment in primary assignedunitsand able to apply knowledge to supportadditionalunitsas needed to deliver planned daily volume levels.

  • Coordinates with operators and Shift Leader toensurelines operate consistently throughoutshift,including but not limited to supporting break coverage.

  • Applies technicalexpertisetoresolve/escalate equipment stoppages.

  • Ability to collaborate with Technicians and Engineersto coordinate line improvements/ repairs/preventativemaintenanceina mannerthat minimizes down time and promotes equipment operating at optimal performance levels.

  • Maintainsaccuraterecords and documents asrequired.

  • Inthe absenceofUnit Trio,caneffectivelyfacilitateasmoothshifttransfer andcommunication,includingparticipationin tier 1shiftstart-up meetings.

  • Support business needs by working overtime as necessary to meet schedule requirements.

  • Quality support including statistical sampling and root cause analysis.  

  • Work order verification and inventory adjustments

Deliverablesfor this roleinclude: 

  • Safety- Thinks Safe, Acts Safe! Reports any accident or potentialaccidentsimmediately.Advocate for Safetyandconducts unit Safety Walks, serves as a member ofSite Safety Team.

  • Quality-Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures, and best practices.Complywithall local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.Serves as On the Job Trainer. 

  • Continuous Improvement/Delivery- Activelyparticipatesin Continuous Improvement teams and activities, including lean manufacturing, 5S, blitzes, Shift Start-up, updating PVD boards, etc. Meets or exceeds department KAS completion goals.Provides recommendations forat least twocontinuous improvement projects duringeach quarter.

  • 5S-Maintainsequipment and an organized clean area by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping down equipment.Performs maintenance tasksaccording to the applicable certification levelincluding completing autonomous maintenance tasks tomaintainassigned equipment/area.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Education:This position has the followingminimumeducational requirements:  

  • H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. preferred OR6years of industrial/manufacturing experience is preferred

Work Experience:

  • Proficient asCertified Level2Operatorfor6 months to1year

  • 4years+ofconsecutive manufacturingexperienceina related field in lieu of Level2Operator Certification

Basic Knowledge andSkills: 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities (KSA’s): 

  • MustcompleteLevel 1-2Job Skills Assessments.

  • Complete continuous learningcoursesonleadership.

  • Complete technical certification for Automation Maintenance Operator level2.

  • Must be able to read & write in written English and communicate in verbal English

  • Effectively communicateswithin department and betweenmaterials,organization, production, and management.

  • Punctual and accountable for attendancein accordance withcompany policies to ensure production

  • Ability tomotivate and inspire positive results

  • Knowledge of basic Factory Flow principles

  • Moderateproficiencywith PCs (Personal Computers)includinguseExcel andPowerPoint

  • Language skills – English – Proficientrequired; SpanishProficientpreferred
