Summary:
The R&D Engineer will support development of new and continuing support of existing products for Urology and Critical Care, High Volume Disposables. This individual will be responsible incremental design changes to existing products as well as planning, delivering and analyzing engineering experiments to evaluate product design and performance, and development of test fixtures and equipment to support design verification. The engineer will also develop test methods and execute verification protocols per established procedures. The position requires knowledge of basic engineering principles, laboratory techniques, mechanical construction and experimental testing of medical devices.
Responsibilities:
Maintains design configuration of existing products. Leads design change efforts per the design change process. Designs and conducts engineering experiments and tests to establish and/or verify product designs or theories.
Assists in research activities by collecting data, performing analysis, summarizing results, preparing charts and graphs.
Conducts feasibility studies and investigations on specific projects as assigned.
Prepare technical reports, presentations, proposals and other written materials. Creates and revises technical documentation included drawings and specifications.
Procures parts and equipment needed for projects through both external suppliers and internal resources.
Utilizes various computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite to generate documents, perform data analysis, create spreadsheets and graphics. Uses CAD software to create models, assemblies and drawings.
Collaborates with cross-functional team members to identify and resolve issues related to product development and manufacturing processes.
Develops and maintains project documentation such as project plans, requirements documentation, risk management files, and quality assurance records.
Provides input to department budget requests, forecasts and cost reduction efforts.
Communicates regularly with customers and vendors regarding progress and results.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline required.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum five years experience in similar role.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively and maintain a positive attitude.
Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts to others who may not have similar background knowledge.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Knowledgeable in solid modeling using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks).
Experience in fixture design & fabrication.
Understanding of plastics molding process and tooling.
Understanding of FDA regulations and compliance reporting for Medical Devices or applicable experience working in a regulated environment.
Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Previous experience working in a high volume manufacturing environment is desirable.
MS Office experience.
