As part of BD Specimens Management business line, the engineer in this role will be a key contributor on the R&D Team. The individual in this position will have a complete understanding of a wide application of engineering principles, theories, concepts, and has a full knowledge and/or expertise of other related disciplines. He/She will provide solutions that are imaginative, thorough, and practical to a wide range of complete problems. He/she will be responsible for providing product development and engineering support by playing critical role in developing / integrating / analyzing / testing / and troubleshooting medical device/IVD components and systems relating to collection, preservation, manipulation and analysis of biological samples including human blood samples.Job Description

About the role:
As an R&D Staff Engineer II, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing world-class engineering solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure flawless execution of projects and contribute to our mission of making a difference in global healthcare.
You will play a key role in developing advanced biomedical and medical device solutions by leading technical activities, solving complex engineering problems, and supporting major R&D initiatives. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, hands-on experimental work, and the ability to collaborate across teams while driving high-quality, well‑documented results.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Develop technical approaches, in vivo/in vitro models, and robust test methods.
- Lead benchtop studies, verification/validation efforts, and root‑cause investigations.
- Apply DOE, statistical analysis, and engineering fundamentals to evaluate designs.
- Design test fixtures, conduct MSA, and analyze data to support decisions.
- Communicate findings through clear reports and presentations to peers and leadership.
- Support material, design, and process changes under design control requirements.
- Contribute to R&D strategy, capability development, and evaluation of new opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with quality policies and maintain strong documentation.
Knowledge and Skills
Mechanical, Biomedical or closely related engineering fields.
Strength in scientific and engineering fundamentals based on first principles understanding including critical thinking and systematic problem solving skills as well as business acumen and learning agility are essential requirements to be successful in this position.
Strong technical judgement and leadership skills.
Demonstrated capability of leading R&D product development projects.
Experience in guiding team/individuals to develop technical solutions to complex problems.
R&D functional planning, requirement generation and technical (DFSS/Design/Cross functional) reviews for all product development phases.
Proficiency in solid CAD modeling (Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent) and design for manufacturability including injection molded and related systems and assemblies.
Product development considerations for tightly controlled, high-volume manufacturing process.
Disciplined in phase-gate product development and project planning.
Strong project management, prioritizing, and multi-tasking skills to work within tight deadlines.
Experience in directing associates and leading small cross-functional groups is a plus.
Proficiency with statistical methods including DoE and data analysis using software such as Minitab.
Proficiency with fixture design including basic machining considerations and developing test methods (fixture design and hands-on testing).
Understanding of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
Proficiency with any of FEA and/or CFD modeling software is a plus.
Knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) practices, and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
Ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals and teams.
Strong creative, analytical, and problem solving skills required.
Good written and verbal communication skills.

Education:
Bachelors/Masters/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical, or Mechanical Biomedical Engineering discipline.
B.S.: 10+ years of experience in technical area
M.S.: 7+ years of experience in technical area
Ph.D.: 5+ years of experience in technical area
Required Experience:
Must be proficient in CAD modeling (e.g., PTC Creo, SolidWorks) and design for manufacturability for injection-molded components and high‑volume manufacturing processes.
Strong competency in design of experiments (DOE), statistical methods, and data analysis using tools such as Minitab.
Hands-on experience designing and developing test method development, in vivo and in vitro test models, and test fixtures.
Experience executing Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and developing robust test methods.
Strong understanding of phase-gate product development, R&D planning, requirement generation, and technical review processes (DFSS/Design/Cross-functional reviews).
Experience presenting findings and technical recommendations to peers, leadership, and cross-functional partners.
Experience and proficiency in Design, Risk, and Change Control
Ability to lead or support design, material, and process changes within regulated design control environments.
Preferred Experience:
Medical Device experience is highly preferred
Pharmaceutical industry or medical experience is also preferred.
Experience in any regulatory industry is highly preferred.
Proficiency with FEA and/or CFD modeling software.
Knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) practices and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
Experience performing computational, analytical, or modeling-based evaluation of product performance.
