We are the makers of possible

BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

We believe that the human element, across our global teams, is what allows us to continually evolve. Join us and discover an environment in which you’ll be supported to learn, grow and become your best self. Become a makerof possible with us.

The Strategic Pricing Director is the enterprise leader responsible for advancing and embedding value-based pricing across BD business units. Partnering with Commercial, Marketing, Finance, Innovation, and regional leadership, this role ensures pricing decisions reflect customer value, clinical and economic outcomes, and BD’s long-term growth objectives. Reporting to the VP, Strategic Pricing, the Director leads cross-business initiatives, pricing governance, analytics, and change management to build scalable capabilities and deliver sustainable, profitable growth across BD’s global portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Value‑Based Pricing Leadership

  • Lead the design and deployment of value-based pricing frameworks aligned to BD’s purpose, portfolio strategy, and healthcare customer economics.

  • Translate clinical, operational, and economic value into clear, credible pricing strategies across consumables, capital equipment, software-enabled solutions, and services.

  • Partner with R&D, Innovation, and Portfolio Management to embed value-based pricing early in the product lifecycle—from concept through launch and lifecycle optimization.

  • Support pricing strategies that reflect patient safety, quality, and outcomes while enabling sustainable value capture.

Pricing Governance, Analytics & Execution

  • Strengthen enterprise pricing governance, including decision rights, escalation models, and enterprise standards.

  • Operationalize an enterprise pricing measurement framework, standardizing KPI definitions, data sources, and reporting cadence across business units to enable comparability, governance, and continuous improvement in price realization and margin performance.

  • Drive adoption of standardized pricing methodologies and analytics (e.g., Segmented Price Variance Analysis (SePVA), value quantification, willingness-to-pay, price waterfall, and price realization/leakage analytics)

  • Build and scale advanced analytics and visualization (e.g., Power BI, Minitab, and similar tools), developing dashboards and insight routines to improve price realization, reduce leakage, and accelerate decision-making.

  • Ensure pricing strategies comply with BD policies, ethical standards, and applicable regulatory and trade requirements.

Capability Building & Culture Change

  • Elevate pricing capability across BD through training programs, playbooks, and best practice sharing.

  • Champion a value mindset, helping teams move beyond cost-plus and competitive matching toward customer-centric value articulation.

  • Lead, mentor, and influence a network of pricing professionals and cross-functional stakeholders across the enterprise.

Transactional Lean Management

  • Apply Lean Management principles to improve pricing process speed, quality, and consistency—especially standard work, Daily Management System (DMS), problem solving and Kaizen events.

  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen events and in pricing-related strategy deployments to strengthen pricing governance, improve execution, and reduce leakage.

  • Establish and sustain standard work for launch pricing, deal approvals, exception handling, and escalation routines.

Business Unit & Market Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted pricing advisor to global and regional BD leadership, partnering cross-functionally (Commercial, Marketing, Finance) to shape and execute pricing strategies across business units.

  • Support pricing strategy for new product launches, portfolio transitions, innovation platforms, and digital solutions across the full customer lifecycle, ensuring alignment with value propositions and customer needs.

  • Balance global consistency with local market realities, leveraging strong commercial acumen and market understanding (segments, competitive dynamics, procurement behavior, channel economics) to protect value and drive growth.

Executive Communication & Influence

  • Demonstrate strong executive presence while delivering concise, data-driven pricing and value insights in executive forums to influence decisions and advance enterprise transformation across growth, innovation, and operational excellence

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic pricing, value management, or commercial strategy.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing value-based pricing in complex, multi-business, global organizations.

  • Strong ability to influence across functions and levels without direct authority; proven balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

  • Familiarity with health economics, reimbursement dynamics, and customer value outcomes.

  • Proven change management leadership to embed new frameworks, governance, and tools across a global matrix.

  • Advanced analytics capability (e.g., Power BI, Minitab, and similar tools) with ability to translate data into executive-ready insights.

  • Transactional Lean / Continuous Improvement experience (standard work, Daily Management System (DMS), structured problem solving) applied to commercial/pricing processes.

  • Strong commercial acumen and market insight in medical devices, diagnostics, life sciences, or healthcare, with proven ability to link pricing decisions to growth strategy and competitive positioning.
