Job Description
At BD, possibility isn’t an idea. It’s what we do. We are the Makers of Possible.
Join BD as a Field Service Engineer - Biosciences and work hands‑on with instrumentation that enables researchers, clinicians and scientists to push the boundaries of discovery. In this VIC‑based role, you’ll support leading research institutes, universities and clinical laboratories — ensuring their critical flow cytometry and biosciences instruments are installed, maintained and performing at their best.
If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, thrive in scientific environments, and want a role where your work directly supports advances in health and research, this is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Your Day-to-Day
As a Field Service Engineer within the Biosciences team, you’ll service instrumentation that relies on complex fluidics systems, precision mechanics, and advanced electronics - with the opportunity to learn optical systems if you’re not already experienced.
Your day will include:
- Installing, commissioning and training customers on BD Biosciences instruments
- Performing maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair work and performance testing
- Troubleshooting fluidics systems and identifying issues in pumps, valves, flow cells or tubing assemblies
- Providing phone‑based troubleshooting support when required
- Maintaining accurate service records and documentation
- Collaborating with Account Managers and Technical Specialists on service and upgrade opportunities
- Managing service parts, stock control and equipment movement
- Assessing product performance, reporting issues and recommending improvements
- Keeping up‑to‑date with new instrument models through ongoing product training
- Preparing repair quotations and supporting service contract opportunities
- Ensuring all activities comply with BD’s Quality Management System
About You
You’re a technical problem‑solver with strong electro‑mechanical and IT capabilities and experience working with fluidics systems used in scientific instrumentation, lab equipment, automation, or diagnostics.
If you have experience with optics, that’s a bonus — but we can train you.
You’ll bring:
- Qualification in electronics, engineering, biomedical engineering, mechatronics or similar
- Hands‑on experience with fluidics systems (e.g., pumps, valves, flow paths, pressure systems, flow cells)
- Experience servicing instrumentation such as flow cytometers, lab automation, analytical systems, imaging devices or similar
- Strong troubleshooting across hardware, electronics, software and networking
- Ability or willingness to learn optical alignment and optical troubleshooting
- Confidence configuring software, operating systems, updates and upgrades
- High attention to detail and ability to work with precision equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to travel across Victoria and interstate as needed
Candidates with flow cytometry experience will stand out, but anyone with strong fluidics + electro‑mechanical troubleshooting is encouraged to apply.
