The Engineer will support all stages of product development, including design verification and manufacturing release for new and existing products. This role demands strong analytical skills and outstanding attention to detail. Plan, design and coordinate the development and implementation of 3D assembly tolerance analysis, measurement systems and related quality/engineering activities in any of the plants to support new product development projects through manufacturing scale-up, as well as existing production. Responsibilities:
- Tolerance Analysis Mastery: Review, and perform sophisticated assembly and component tolerance analyses.
- Measurement System Innovation: Lead the development of cutting-edge measurement systems using advanced CAD, Contact, Non-Contact, and CT Scanning metrology tools.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with talented professionals across R&D, Device Molding, Quality, Manufacturing, and Process/Assembly Technology teams and outside vendors.
- Technical Leadership: Provide expert metrology support for qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, assemblies, changes and transfers including precise part measurements, MSD/MSA, fixture design, GR&R, data analysis, and design definition.
- Project Ownership: Take the lead on specialized technical projects across R&D, GIE, molding, and other engineering disciplines.
- Communication Excellence: Coordinate and communicate project details with clarity and precision across all relevant personnel and departments.
- Equipment Specification: Define metrology equipment, fixtures, and procedures for new part designs that meet stringent accuracy and repeatability requirements.
- Budget Management: Write capital expenditure requests and manage budgets for metrology projects.
- Equipment Implementation: Install and manage new metrology equipment and fixtures to support product development, process changes, and scale-up initiatives.
- Documentation Leadership: Create, review, and approve critical documentation including work instructions, change notices, and specifications.
- Mentorship: Train and mentor less experienced team members, sharing your expertise to develop the next generation of metrology specialists.
- Production Scale-up: Develop and implement metrology processes for pilot production and scale-up programs—be the bridge between development and manufacturing!
- Project Leadership: Lead assigned projects with accountability and excellence.
- Professional Development: Stay at the cutting edge of your field through professional meetings, literature review, and industry consultations.
- Safety Compliance: Uphold all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain BD's reputation for excellence by adhering to quality policies, procedures, and practices.
- Innovation Projects: Identify and complete ATR/ metrology development projects that result in equipment and procedures meeting exacting accuracy and repeatability standards along with successful technology transfer to Equipment & Process Design group or other outside production source.
- Performance Excellence: Successfully complete Individual Impact Goals (IIGs) that drive both personal and organizational success.
Required Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in an engineering field OR
A.S. Degree in an engineering field plus 4 years of related metrology engineering experience OR
High school diploma/GED with 8 years of focused metrology development experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Plastics, manufacturing or mechanical engineering degree
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and ASME Y14.5-2018
Basic knowledge of Statistical Process Control concepts and Six Sigma principles
Experience with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
Fully automated, contact/non-contact measurement instrument experience
