Job Description Summary

The Staff Scientist, Scientific Affairs plays a key role in the development and execution of the evidence dissemination plan supporting BD's peripheral vascular device portfolio. The focus is on impactful, evidence-based scientific messages in podium and publications. This position reports to the Director, Scientific Affairs.

Overview:

This position is in the BD Peripheral Intervention segment (formerly Bard).   Relevant disease states for this role are Peripheral Arterial Disease, Venous Disease, and End Stage Kidney DiseaseProducts may include percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, balloon catheters, vascularstents, stent grafts, drug coated balloons, atherectomy, inferior vena cava filters and others.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret clinical study results and collaborate with BD Scientific Affairs team and physician study investigators in the development of scientific communications content (abstracts, presentations, and publications). Engage in writing, editing, and project management to achieve publication goals in alignment with ICMJE and BD policies.

  • Monitor key scientific congresses for abstract deadlines and work with BD Scientific Affairs team and investigators of BD-sponsored research for podium presence in support of corporate scientific communication strategies and plans.

  • Critically summarize relevant scientific and medical literature in peripheral vascular disease. Communicate potential impact of key findings to cross-functional team.

  • Establish, develop, and foster strong relationships with key physicians, Congresses, and scientific societies to facilitate scientific communication efforts.

  • Attend key medical/scientific Congresses to manage speaker preparation and create clinical summaries of relevant scientific sessions.

  • Work cross-functionally to ensure strategic alignment and regularly assess share of scientific voice

  • Use BD Internal platforms to support compliant scientific communications

  • Other incidental duties: represent Medical Affairs in various internal and external programs. Assist in planning advisory board meetings and other scientific gatherings.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in related scientific field

  • 3-5 years of healthcare industry experience.

  • Advanced scientific presentation creation skills; strong writing skills.

  • Experience with clinical research/trial design

  • Experience comprehendinglarge amounts of scientific content,and translating into clinical narratives.

  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Willing to travel up to 20% may be required with potential for international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in related scientific field

  • 5 years Medical device experience

  • Medical writing experience

  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration with regulatory, clinical, marketing, medical affairs, HEOR, and R&D

  • In-depth understanding of the peripheral vascular disease space to include treatment modalities, current clinical practices/guidelines, patient journey, and emerging tre​nds

  • Experience engaging with key opinion leaders in the peripheral vascular disease space including interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons, interventional nephrologists.
