As the EHS Manager, you will create and manage all policies and procedures required for an effective Environmental Health and Safety program for BD’s Global APM field-based associates while providing some oversight to APMs R&D facility in Irvine, CA. Have extensive knowledge in Environmental, Health and Safety Programs, including but not limited to, Ergonomics, Risk Assessments, Injury and Illness prevention, Dock, and Electrical Safety. You will be the Subject Matter Expert on all issues involving Environmental Compliance, Health and Safety regulation, and Workplace Injuries. You will work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors necessary to select appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining satisfactory solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall management of all environmental health and safety programs for APM Field Based associates.

  • Provide supervision, coaching and development for leaders.

  • Develop safety policies, goals, programs, and training.

  • Oversee Medical Surveillance program for APM field associates and partner with regional experts on compliance and reporting.

  • Investigate, prepare, and forward, as required, reports on injuries and illnesses.

  • Lead projects & evaluate processes in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Develops and provides safety and environmental training to all site and field associates.

  • Conduct jobsite assessments, focusing on unsafe conditions and unsafe work behaviors; ensure appropriate action is taken to correct deficiencies.

  • Participate in Occupational Safety and Health inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. 

  • Partners with Vendor Credentialling team to ensure compliance for customer access requirements.

  • Supervise and maintain records and permits in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Develop and communicate technical information in a manner that fosters understanding, decision-making, and positive interaction with employees, functional managers, & facility management teams.

  •  Provide resource requirements based on PPE Assessments, risk assessment corrective actions, travel safety needs, etc. 

  • Provides EHS leadership oversight for APM Field Based associates.

  • Periodic review of policies, programs, and metrics to ensure alignment of EH&S strategies with business needs.

  • Keeps abreast of the government regulations affecting own area of supervision/management and follows those regulations.  Initiates changes to practices and procedures to support compliance requirements.

  • Inhouse position with travel required (10%).

  • Other duties as needed to support business directives and goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; (Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental Science preferred)

  • Strongly prefer at least 8 years of experience working in environmental health and safety management

  • Strongly prefer at least 4 years of experience with field-based associates

  • Extensive knowledge of EHS regulations, standard processes and EHS management systems

  • Experience designing and implementing strategies/programs/processes that supports a business strategy.

  • Experience using Risk Management tools (including Risk Assessments, JSA’s, PPE Assessments, Ergonomic Assessments) and implementing corrective actions based on the Hierarchy of Controls.

  • Strongly prefer experience managing EHS Programs in hospital and lab settings. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of federal, state, and local safety and environmental laws and the ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards.

  • Demonstrated ability to use influence skills to successfully develop and implement effective safety programs which engage all employees.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills, to include the ability to exercise judgment and appropriately communicate and manage confidential information.

  • Effective skills in the areas of counseling/coaching/influencing, conflict management and interpersonal/verbal/written communications.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Workers Compensation Claims Management.
