Job Description Summary
The Supervisor is responsible for the effective leadership and overall management of the Shipping, Inventory Control and Receiving associates. Responsible for setting daily/weekly/monthly priorities for the department using data-based decisions to drive actions and resource allocation. Oversees daily operational activities, establishment of priorities, and developing system and processes for achieving goals related to safety, costs, quality, productivity, workforce development, and plant initiatives. Uses continuous improvement tools (i.e. Lean Mfg., Focused Improvement, Kaizen, 5S, etc.) to deliver measurable improvements and build a professional and effective warehouse culture and expertise within the department. Fosters the workforce by developing associate ownership by involving all associates in the daily review process, performance measurement tacking, auditing, and accountability. Responsibilities
Manages department to achieve maximum efficiency and utilization of resources, equipment, and personnel.
Ensures timely and effective execution of all Shipping, Inventory Control and Receiving daily operational objectives. This includes Inventory Management, all inbound and outbound activities including all domestic and international Shipping functions.
Manages departmental projects and initiatives to include cost savings, inventory reduction, and process optimization directives and process improvements.
Prepares and initiates monthly reports to include required corporate metrics, project timelines and productivity measurements.
Develops and executes the business strategies for the Shipping, Inventory Control and Receiving department to meet the goals and objectives of the business including staffing, inventory optimization, equipment, and space requirements.
Participates in the development and analysis of manufacturing processes and procedures to optimize departmental efficiencies and maintain high product quality.
Lead the hiring, training, enrichment, and career development of all department Associates.
Initiates the timely performance appraisal of all direct and indirect personnel with the assistance of department management.
Leads and fosters the departmental continuous improvement programs (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) by providing the tools, resources and support needed.
Develops performance objectives and training programs for the department.
Ensures a high level of customer service to all internal and external customers including responsiveness and clearly managing expectations.
Ensures compliance with all business and departmental policies.
Keeps abreast of US and non-US regulations affecting own area of supervision/management and complies with those regulations. Initiates changes to BDB practices and procedures to support compliance requirements. Communicates the need for compliance to members of own functional area. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of the next level of management.
Follows BD, North America Supply Chain and BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures. Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area. Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.
Carries out Human Resource management responsibilities such as hires, job assignments, termination recommendations, transfers, promotions, salary actions, and processes performance reviews on time.
Implements the Company’s Affirmative Action Plan as it applies to the function(s) supervised. Monitors conduct and relationships among the Associates supervised to prevent discriminatory acts or comments.
Maintains the CCSSSP program as designated by the Transportation Security Administration for BDB San Diego.
Performs other related duties and assignments as designated by the Manager.
Qualifications
Education
Typically requires Bachelor of Science degree (Science of Engineering discipline preferred) and/or a minimum 5 years’ experience in an inventory management/shipping/manufacturing environment.
High School Diploma or GED Minimally required.
Experience
Minimum 5 years' experience in Supply Chain Operations.
Minimum 3 years’ leadership experience, leading teams of 20+ people.
Experience with continuous improvement tools (i.e. Lean / Six Sigma; 5S; projects).
Experience in safety and 5S.
Transportation / Logistics and/or materials management experience required.
ERP Experience.
Demonstrated hands on experience with SAP and/or similar MRP/MRP II system (Nice to have).
Cold Supply Chain Experience (Nice to have).
Experience in project management or supervision with an emphasis on resource planning, establishing, and exceeding deliverable dates, and adherence to budgets.
Knowledge
Quality, ISO13485, 9001 (Nice to have).
Thorough knowledge of logistics execution strategies and MRP including knowledge of Inventory and WMS, and processing of International and Domestic shipping through carriers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and other software packages.
Knowledge of materials, inventory and warehouse management operations, methodologies, and systems.

Course work in business, accounting or management skills preferred.
