Job Description Summary

Knowledgeable engineering resource to improve the competitiveness of the organization in a performance-based team environment. Responsible for process capability, cost reduction and continuous improvement project implementation within their designated manufacturing unit. Provides specific engineering work related to assigned team, with an overlap between engineering disciplines expected. Support capacity planning and growth, as well as define budgeted rates and process documentation. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Champion Continuous Improvement - Drive safety enhancements, cost reductions, and implement BD Excellence work processes that revolutionize our manufacturing unit
  • Technical Leadership - Identify critical equipment settings, create standards, and build technical knowledge that you'll transfer to operators and technical associates
  • Coaching & Development - Mentor team members on continuous improvement methodologies, helping them grow while enhancing our operations
  • Performance Optimization - Analyze top losses within the manufacturing unit and develop strategic plans to eliminate inefficiencies and boost OEE performance
  • Quality Guardian - Manage manufacturing unit change control, validation activities, and lead root cause analysis for OEE losses and quality events
  • Process Innovation - Design, develop, qualify, and validate cutting-edge manufacturing processes and tooling/equipment
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Participate in dynamic project teams and execute individual project tasks with excellence
  • Technical Analysis - Conduct mechanical/electrical testing, gauge R&R studies, and apply statistical analysis to optimize processes
  • Problem-Solving Expert - Troubleshoot processes, equipment, and quality systems while implementing effective corrective and preventative actions
  • Independent Leadership - Exercise sound engineering judgment and take the lead in managing critical projects
  • Knowledge Transfer - Train manufacturing teams on specifications and processes, serving as the technical interface between engineering and production
  • Lean Manufacturing Mastery - Apply lean principles and tools to drive operational excellence
  • Self-Starter Mindset - Demonstrate initiative and independent thinking, moving projects forward without constant supervision
  • Decision-Making Prowess - Make informed, timely decisions by analyzing multiple factors and potential outcomes
  • Engineering Excellence - Bring proficiency in machinery design and mechanical engineering principles

  • Tech Savvy - Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, statistical analysis tools, and CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
  • Financial Acumen - Lead budgets and manage financial resources effectively
  • Communication Expert - Translate complex technical concepts into clear instructions for manufacturing operators
  • Adaptability - Remain flexible and handle changing priorities with ease
  • Continuous Learner - Take initiative in exploring new technologies and materials

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical field of study, or

  • Five (5) years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma Certification.

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing.

  • Experience in a regulated environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to safely perform area-specific gowning procedures.  These may include but are not limited to:  Donning a smock with zippers and/or snaps, sitting or standing (with a safety bar) to apply shoe covers over the top of shoes, applying gloves, walking over or around benches in the transition area, and bending, stooping, and reaching motions.

  • Ability to lift and move 35 lbs. (over 35 lbs. with assistance).

  • Ability to utilize all area-specific PPE including but not limited to: eye protection, respiratory protection and hearing protection as required.

Work Environment:

Medical device manufacturing environment. May require some exposure to chemicals used in manufacturing processes. Some minor physical inconvenience or discomfort occasionally present in the work situation (moderate noise, disagreeable odors, etc.). Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be maintained by the associate.
