Inclusion and Engagement
Akiva’s journey to shaping his career while making a difference
Akiva Kirschner thrives in the collaborative culture at BD and the shared commitment to helping one another succeed. “I feel like I belong and am accepted for who I am. I love being able to share my story and listen to others and grow my network at BD,” said Akiva. This sense of belonging fuels his passion for championing a mindset of curiosity and growth, believing that true success is built on the courage to learn and the flexibility to adapt. In his role as the Global Career Co-Lead for the Out & Proud Employee Network (OPEN), Akiva provides education and development opportunities to provide tools to empower associates to reach their fullest potential.
Leading with impact: Our ARGs role in fighting global hunger
For more than a decade, BD volunteers have honored the Martin Luther King Jr., National Day of Service by joining together to pack shelf-stable meals in partnership with Rise Against Hunger, which distributes the meals to communities around the world that have limited access to nutritious food. Every year, thousands of volunteers at sites across the U.S. have participated in meal-packing events and in 2025, we reached a milestone of BD’s 2 millionth meal packed for Rise Against Hunger. In 2024, the African Americans BD Associate Resource Group played a key leadership role, spearheading efforts at multiple sites and helping to drive engagement and impact across the broader BD community.
From hospital to home: How our Nurse Network ARG is improving patient care
Every time we put ourselves into the shoes of the clinician or the patient, we have the opportunity to learn something new. The BD Nurse Network Associate Resource Group (ARG) partnered with our Research Centre Ireland team in Limerick to host the Nurse Tech Connect - an event simulating the patient journey from the hospital to a home care setting. Events like these are opportunities to observe, ask questions and challenge assumptions around clinical workflows and experiences, so that we can identify and solve for unmet needs and meaningfully advance the standard of care.
