Job Description Summary

Reports directly to the Sr. Manager Supply Chain. Optimize the movement of materials and information through a manufacturing plant to ensure efficient production, minimize costs, and meet customer demands. Key responsibilities include coordinating the supply chain, managing production schedules and inventory, optimizing logistics, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives like lean manufacturing and process efficiency. Provides capable leadership and motivation to all associates in the assigned areas (including supervision). Effectively executes all activities in compliance with the highest safety, quality, service and total cost objectives of the business consistently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Servicing all BDPAS customers with finished product in the United States, Canada, and Europe.  Shipment of finished product includes shipments to the outside sterilization contractor, BD distribution centers and directly to the customer.

  • The shipment of Sumter manufactured component parts to other BD plants.

  • Efficient warehousing process and flow involving the timely and accurate shipment of goods in compliance with plant/distribution objectives as required.

  • Updating SAP in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Coordination of traffic arrangements on shipments within the guidelines of Corporate Traffic.

  • The management of the gamma Sterilization operations.

  • The implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles within the areas, as well as supporting lean activities throughout the plant.

  • The proactive communication of performance, challenges or opportunities met by Sterilization & Shipping overall.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides leadership and supervision (either directly or indirectly) for all salaried and hourly associates assigned to the Sterilization, Receiving, Shipping and Material Flow, encompassing multiple shift patterns.

  • Ensures timely shipment of finished goods per requirements and allocation.

  • Oversee and control inventory levels, ensuring the availability of necessary materials while minimizing holding costs.  Coordinates inventory activities including cycle counts in the Shipping Warehouse, at the outside Sterilization Contractor and in the Gamma Sterilization department.

  • Directs the storage of items placed on hold by Quality Assurance to assure they are physically isolated and not available for use by Production.

  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and identify areas for improvement in the overall flow of the factory. 

  • Maintains a 98% inventory accuracy level consistent with SAP requirements through good inventory practices and verified by a cycle counting program.

  • Communicate with Division PIC, Production Planning, and Corporate Traffic to improve shipping service and minimize transportation problems.

  • Directs the gamma sterilization operations, insuring compliance and service.

  • Assures that Lean Manufacturing principles are followed in all areas under direct leadership and assists with the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles in other areas of the plant.

  • Hires, trains, and motivates associates to ensure the attainment of company Sterilization and distribution objectives.

  • Supervises the Shipping office functions performed, specifically those relating to processing orders, preparation of bills of lading, documentation for overseas shipments, maintenance of locator system, and other paperwork required.

  • Develops the annual budget for the Sterilization & Shipping departments that includes manpower, facility, equipment, routine operating and capital expenditures. Handles department expenditures within the budget and forecast.

  • Recommends and upholds capital expenditures.

  • Assures that all equipment is well maintained so that it will operate in a safe and effective manner.  Make recommendations when equipment needs to be replaced.

  • Directs traffic for inbound/outbound air and common carrier shipments per Corporate Traffic guidelines. 

  • Analyze existing procedures and training and implement changes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards as it relates to material movements and control in the plant. 

  • Work with various departments to identify bottlenecks, resolve supply disruptions, and ensure effective communication throughout the supply chain.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs other duties as required and/or assigned by the Sr. Manager Supply Chain.

  • Plays a critical role as a leader in the Supply Chain Department: actively contributes to / supports initiatives, communicates across the organization and drives efficiency

  • Lead and or support Kaizen activities related to Material, Logistics and flow.

Levels of Supervision: Medium Team (~10-20)

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field

Minimum Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in warehousing, distribution, and administrative functions in a manufacturing environment (or equivalent related experience), with emphasis on maintaining and utilizing a computerized inventory system to control inventories and ensure proper stock rotation.

  • Experience leading teams and cross-functional projects

  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and warehouse management systems

  • Knowledge of sterilization processes and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO) is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities (KSA’s): 

  • Clear understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and expectations, with the ability to lead others in this direction.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership abilities, with excellent organizational & critical thinking skills.  Must be Intuitive, with a high sense of urgency; strongly motivated, balanced perspective, and an effective communicator at all levels.

Physical Capacity Profile: 

Work Environment: Primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse setting.

  • Climate Control: Work areas may include both climate-controlled office spaces and non-climate-controlled warehouses or production environments. Must be able to work comfortably in varying temperatures and humidity levels.

  • Mobility: Must be able to move freely throughout the plant, including warehouse, shipping/receiving, and sterilization areas.

  • Standing/Walking: Frequent standing and walking required during plant floor supervision and process observation.

  • Sitting: Moderate sitting during meetings, planning, and administrative tasks.

  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 lbs.

  • Climbing/Bending: Occasional bending, stooping, and climbing (e.g., stairs, equipment platforms).

  • PPE: Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when in designated areas.
