The Director of Strategy & Business Development plays a critical role in driving growth and innovation within the Specimen Management business. This role leads opportunity identification and evaluation, upstream marketing, external innovation partnerships, and selective strategic planning — shaping portfolio and investment decisions through rigorous analysis and executive‑level influence.

The position requires strong business acumen, analytical rigor, and executive presence to translate complex insights into clear priorities and actionable recommendations.

About the Role
The Director leads upstream innovation and growth initiatives, partnering closely with R&D, Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Regulatory to shape innovation direction and portfolio choices.

As part of a cross‑functional strategic innovation ecosystem, this role brings external perspective, structured thinking, and disciplined execution to identify high‑potential opportunities and advance them from concept through decision and early execution.

Key Capabilities

  • End‑to‑End Initiative OwnershipLead strategic initiatives from opportunity framing through execution, driving clarity, momentum, and accountability

  • Matrix Leadership & Orchestration — Align cross‑functional, regional, and corporate stakeholders across interdependent workstreams and priorities

  • Upstream Marketing & Opportunity ShapingDefine customer segments, unmet needs, and target product profiles to guide innovation and portfolio strategy

  • Partnership DevelopmentIdentify, structure, and manage strategic partnerships to accelerate capability building and value creation

  • Executive StorytellingSynthesize complex strategies, data, and insights into clear, compelling, executive‑ready presentations

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate growth opportunities through structured market scanning, competitive analysis, customer insight, and technology assessment

  • Develop market, competitive, and financial models to assess market size, adoption dynamics, and value creation potential

  • Translate insights into clear growth priorities, portfolio options, and execution roadmaps

  • Support and selectively lead strategic planning and review processes, ensuring innovation insights inform decisions

  • Identify and manage strategic partnerships that accelerate innovation and scale

  • Conduct ongoing competitive benchmarking to inform strategy and positioning

  • Provide executive‑level decision support through high‑impact analysis and presentations

Education & Experience

  • BS/BA in engineering, business, or science; MBA strongly preferred

  • 2–3 years of management consulting experience preferred

  • 5+ years in strategy, innovation, upstream marketing, or business development

  • Demonstrated experience in opportunity evaluation, innovation strategy, and business case development

  • Strong capability in market modeling and investment analysis

  • Healthcare industry experience required (Medical Device or Diagnostics preferred)

  • Action‑oriented with the ability to drive progress in complex, matrixed environments

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders

  • Clear, logical communicator who grounds recommendations in data and sound judgment

Additional
Travel approximately 25%

This role will be onsite in Franklin Lakes, NJ and will adhere to the 4 day per week, in office schedule.
