Position Summary
The Global Deployment Planning Director is accountable for defining and leading global Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP) strategy for a highly regulated medical device and clinical supply network. The scope of this role spans a $2B annual revenue global division, encompassing approximately 4,000 active SKUs distributed across six regions worldwide. The role is accountable for driving deployment, replenishment, and inventory strategies that balance service, cost, shelf‑life risk, and regulatory requirements in a highly complex and regulated environment. The role serves as the division owner of DRP design, execution standards, and process maturity across regions.
The Director leads a globally distributed team of regional deployment and replenishment planners and is accountable for building organizational capability, role clarity, and decision discipline across regions. This role partners closely with Global Supply Planning, Distribution & Logistics, and Regional Demand Planning teams to ensure alignment across production, deployment, and commercial needs.
As a senior leader within the supply chain organization, this role plays a critical part in driving transformation—shifting the organization from reactive, transactional replenishment toward anticipatory, data‑driven, and risk‑based inventory management. The position provides clear executive visibility into inventory health, service risk, and deployment trade‑offs, enabling informed decision‑making that supports scale, resilience, and sustainable growth in a regulated healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead global deployment and replenishment teams through significant organizational change, including operating model redesigns, role clarity resets, and global process standardization.
- Drive adoption of new ways of working across regions, shifting teams from transactional execution to strategic, risk‑based inventory decision‑making.
- Define and own the global deployment and replenishment strategy for regulated medical device and diagnostic products, incorporating shelf‑life constraints, expiry risk, and regulatory requirements.
- Establish global standards for:
- Inventory segmentation and deployment strategies by product class, shelf life, clinical criticality, and distribution node
- DRP safety stock, target stock, and reorder methodologies that account for expiry risk, forecast variability, and multi‑echelon lead times
- Replenishment frequency, deployment lot sizing, allocation logic, and exception‑based DRP management
- Translate IBP outcomes into time‑phased DRP plans, ensuring alignment between supply availability, regional demand, inventory health, and service commitments.
- Implement early‑warning mechanisms to proactively identify supply and inventory risks before customer impact.
- Lead, develop, and coach a global team of regional deployment and replenishment planners.
- Shift the organization from reactive, transactional replenishment to anticipatory, risk‑based inventory management.
- Build strong analytical capability in shelf‑life trade‑offs, allocation decisions, and scenario planning.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders during disruptions, escalations, or demand/supply imbalances, leveraging DRP analytics to support difficult prioritization decisions.
- Own executive‑level DRP reporting and readouts, providing clear, concise visibility to senior leadership on global and regional inventory health, service risk, and deployment trade‑offs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain planning, with demonstrated ownership of complex, multi‑site supply and distribution networks.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience, including leading leaders.
- APICS certification (CPIM/CSCP) preferred.
- Proven expertise in Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP), including inventory positioning, deployment planning, replenishment logic, and exception management across multi‑echelon networks.
- Experience in regulated industries (medical device, biotech, pharmaceutical).
- Proven ability to lead through significant change; merger and integration experience strongly preferred.
- Hands‑on experience working with international supply chain teams, including navigating time zone, cultural, and regional operating differences.
- Experience leading and collaborating with international teams, navigating time zone, cultural, and regional operating differences effectively.
- Advanced experience with ERP and supply chain planning systems; SAP IBP (DRP, Inventory Optimization, or S&OP modules) strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical capability with experience using advanced analytics to drive planning decisions.
- Executive‑level communication, presence, and influencing skills.
Additional Experience a Plus
- MBA or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience leading a planning transformation (ERP/APS implementation, IBP implementation).
- Prior experience in both supply chain planning and at least one adjacent supply chain or business function, enabling the ability to identify upstream and downstream implications of planning decisions.
