The BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) R&D team in Salt Lake City is seeking a talented and passionate R&D Engineer to drive innovation in the Vascular Access market, with a focus on custom kitting. This role involves developing and improving disposable and durable medical devices, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and leading cross-functional projects with divisional impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in R&D and technical areas.

  • Lead new product development and critical component changes.

  • Generate and implement innovative ideas and solutions.

  • Provide technical support for components, materials, systems, and processes.

  • Develop and manage test methods, protocols, and validation studies.

  • Conduct product complaint investigations and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Manage project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution.

  • Analyze and resolve design, process, and testing issues.

  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.

  • Develop and implement manufacturing procedures and policies.

  • Mentor and influence cross-functional teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 6+ years of engineering experience in medical devices or a regulated industry, OR a Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and cross-functional deliverables.

  • Expertise in cost analysis, tooling design, process optimization, and quality systems.

  • Proficiency in software tools and statistical analysis.

  • Experience with test protocol development, training, and regulatory compliance.

  • Budget management and strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and prior medical device industry experience.

  • Strong technical judgment and accountability.

  • Knowledge of material science, bioengineering, and high-volume manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Minitab, FEA (Abaqus/Fluent), and DOE.

  • Understanding of 21 CFR 820.30 and failure modes in plastics, elastomers, and metals.

  • Experience with clinical studies, metrology, and process validation techniques.

Physical Demands:

This position is in an office and laboratory environment and requires the incumbent to sit, stand and perform general office functions. The incumbent may also be required to lift up to twenty-five pounds occasionally. The incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods. Bending, stooping, and reaching are also frequently required
