Job Description Summary

The Operations Specialist I supports the production of commercial fluorescent dyes, including the formulation, bottling, labeling, and packaging of finished goods. The Operations Specialist I also supports Quality Control of finished goods by performing dye labeling reactions and sample preparation. This position will be expected to execute specific tasks with moderate discretion and with oversight from a supervisor/lead.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform bottling/packaging of air and water sensitive finished goods using manual and automated processes and equipment.

  • Perform lyophilization of finished good products.

  • Perform weight checks, capping, and packaging of air and water sensitive finished goods within a glovebox.

  • Prepare packaged products for QA inspection, including all required documentation.

  • Perform small scale chemical reactions (dye labeling) for Quality Control testing.

  • Manage physical inventory within a glovebox and/or cold storage for raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods. Support accurate inventory management of these materials through cycle counts, database management, etc. 

  • Accurately complete required documentation (batch records, data entry, etc.) on time. Support document control and data archiving activities as assigned.

  • Monitor stock of bottling and packaging supplies. Order and restock supplies as needed.

  • Ensure equipment/instruments are maintained for optimal performance, including calibration, preventative maintenance, inventory of spare parts, and qualification for use.

  • Actively participate in the Tier Management System by attending Tier 1 meetings and supporting the achievement of business KPIs (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People) and functional goals 

  • Participate in and uphold 5S workplace organization standards ensuring a clean, efficient, and safe environment through regular audits, labeling, and continuous improvement initiatives 

  • Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. 

  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by reporting manager. May cross-train on other support activities within the Operations department (e.g., Quality Control testing).

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Chemisty, Biology, or Life Sciences

  • 0-2 years relevant experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures is essential.

  • Experience with manual (pipette) and automated filling/dispensing is preferred.

  • Prior experience in a chemistry lab is preferred.

  • Experience working in a glovebox is preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.

  • Experience with SAP, BMRAM, and DocuNECT is preferred.

  • Must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.

  • Multitask to cover a variety of job functions.

  • Experience with quality systems and guidelines (e.g., GLP, GMP, ISO) strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, effective written and oral communications skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Laboratory work inside a glove box to maintain inert atmosphere

  • May need to lift carboys or boxes

  • Overhead work inside fume hood

Work Environment:

  • Laboratory work under red lights (low light)

  • Potential use/handling of hazardous chemicals

  • Operation of automated equipment

  • Office/desk related work
