BD is looking for a highly talented, experienced Program Director, Core Team Leader to leverage their medical device development knowledge to lead a strong and focused team with a high attention to execution and quality.

The Core Team Leader (CTL) in the Infusion portfolio serves as the cross-functional business leader responsible for driving decision-making within development projects using the Core Team model. The CTL leads the team to achieve business outcomes aligned with the Infusion strategy and is accountable for all aspects of assigned projects. This includes building high-performing teams skilled in planning and execution to ensure predictable delivery of reliable solutions for commercial release.

Beyond project leadership, the CTL plays a critical role in mentoring and developing Core Team Members to function as an effective, collaborative unit. Acting as the primary champion for the team, the CTL removes barriers, accelerates decisions, and fosters a culture of empowerment across the organization.

Core Team Leader – Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams for complex hardware/software programs and critical sub-projects, driving execution from product definition through production and release (Product Lifecycle Management).

  • Drive strategic alignment between product development initiatives and Infusion Platform objectives, ensuring the infusion portfolio contributes to revenue growth and market leadership.

  • Accountable for delivery of commitments and Key Driving Goals for new and in-flight projects within the assigned product line.

  • Lead organizational change initiatives to improve product development efficiency, accelerate time-to-market, and enhance compliance in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape

  • Develop and execute cross-functional strategies (e.g., product development, regulatory, service, deployment) at the appropriate stages of the project.

  • Plan and manage annual budgets to ensure alignment with business priorities and successful execution of deliverables.

  • Present progress and strategic updates in Portfolio Management Reviews and Annual Strategic Reviews.

  • Ensure optimal team resourcing based on project prioritization and business needs.

  • Facilitate risk management by identifying potential risks, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring contingency plans are in place.

  • Lead project planning and timeline development, ensuring product development goals are linked to business priorities and traced to individual engineering responsibilities.

  • Foster collaboration and communication across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Marketing to ensure seamless execution.

  • Drive innovative problem-solving and rapid issue resolution to maintain project momentum.

  • Champion effective escalation processes to resolve critical issues quickly and efficiently.

  • Serve as a leadership role model across the organization, mentoring emerging leaders and promoting a high-performance culture that values accountability and collaboration.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Science or Engineering. Master's degree or PhD preferred.

  • At least 10 years of growing responsibility in R&D technical engineering roles (4 or more years of experience in leadership capacity) or a PhD in a relevant engineering discipline with 5 years of industry experience, with extensive, successful experience in product development and a clear understanding of quality management systems.

  • Demonstrated track record of leadership and delivering results

  • Experience working with and leading large cross-functional teams and management of complex projects in a Medical Device or other regulated environment (FDA preferred)

  • Experience with design for manufacturing, process validation and design transfer

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration

  • Demonstrated capability for critical thinking and solutioning.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).

This is a San Diego based on-site position. For this role, we require a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain our culture of excellence and ensure smooth operations, while also recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance.
