Job Summary:
Reports directly to the Rubber Engineering Manager and indirectly to the Rubber Production Supervisors. Provides technical support, primarily mechanical, to production operations. Operates, sets-up, adjusts, changeovers/troubleshoots, and repairs/maintains all departmental production equipment. Responsibilities include production, quality, downtime, and waste levels of machine operation. Provides leadership and training for associates on the production floor. Must project a positive attitude with excellent team skills. Interacts with machine shop personnel to resolve and improve equipment operation and processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Working shift is 8pm to 8am, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off
Provides leadership in a team environment.
Trains and directs Technical Associates (TA), Rubber Set-ups and Rubber Operators on proper set-ups and repairs of equipment.
Trains TA’s in methodical problem-solving techniques.
Talks to engineering and Manufacturing Technicians (MT’s) to direct the completion of required projects.
Uses available resources: engineering, machine shop, production and maintenance departments as required.
Organizes and directs improvement projects to increase equipment utilization.
These are to be done in conjunction with area engineers, the production supervisor and other resources that may be required.
Performs preventative maintenance on the equipment as specified in the preventative maintenance (PM) program or as needed for smooth operation.
Audits PM procedures and activities of TAs.
Tracks and audits PMs to ensure they are completed and closed out in the SAP system.
Analyzes equipment failures for frequency of failure to modify/update PM work order.
Sets up and debugs equipment to documented specifications.
Deviations from these specifications must be cleared with the Supervisor or Engineering.
Maintains equipment in working order to produce products within specified quality and quantity limits, adjusting, fixing, cleaning, and repairing, as necessary.
Maintains equipment logs for each piece of equipment, recording pertinent information about downtime and maintenance problems.

MUST have clear and legible handwriting.
Repairs equipment and reports major problems to the supervisor.
Coordinates maintenance activities with the Maintenance Department, Engineering, or other technical resources, as needed for major repair/production issues.
Turns on machines and ensures proper functioning of machines and control panels.
Makes certain safety guards are in position and working properly.
Enters equipment downtime as directed by Supervision.
Monitors production machinery as needed to ensure top performance.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports all upstream and downstream operations.
Maintains toolbox and surrounding area neat and clean.
Verifies that equipment-surrounding areas are clean during the shift.
Lead shift meeting for specific production area.
Provide honest feedback on others upon request by supervision.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Experience and Knowledge
Technical Associate, General Production Equipment Maintenance.
Minimum of 1 year - Set-up, TA role, or equivalent
Knowledge, skills, or abilities required:
Must be proficient with basic hand tools.
Knowledgeable of feeler gauges and other tools to measure tolerances, torque, and clearances.
Should be familiar with fixing cams, cam-followers, rod-ends, bushings, chain drives, conveyors, gearboxes, vacuum systems, pneumatic systems, and ball valves.
Previous leadership roles, supervisory experience and Rubber Manufacturing experience preferred.
Basic computer navigation skills required.
Must be a self-starter and able to function in a “team environment”.
Must be willing and able to climb onto and around equipment to perform maintenance tasks.
Work Environment:
BD is a smoke-free campus. Smoking and the use of electronic smoking devices, marijuana, or tobacco products are not allowed on BD property, grounds or in the parking areas. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy
False eyelashes, press-on fingernails, and Jewelry is not allowed on the production floor including dermals. Any associate wearing dermals will be required to cover them while working on the production floor.
Shoes are required to be Steel Toe and non-slip for all associates while on the production floor for safety purposes.
