Job Description – Marketing Director, Specimen Management (SM)
Location: Tokyo
Report to: Director, Specimen Management
Subordinates: 3 (Product Manager 1, Clinical Solution 2)
Purpose of the Role
The Marketing Director, Specimen Management (SM) is responsible for leading SM Japan’s strategic planning and driving the execution of initiatives that support business growth and the achievement of financial targets. This role partners closely with key stakeholders across Japan, regional, and global SM leadership teams, as well as cross‑functional departments, to identify market opportunities, shape business strategies, and ensure successful commercial implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop the overall strategic direction for SM Japan and lead cross-functional execution to achieve business objectives.
Financial & Business Analysis
- Conduct financial assessments of targeted customer segments to support the development of value-based offerings and commercial execution plans.
Market & Customer Insights
- Oversee market research activities and guide the team in analyzing trends, unmet customer needs, and competitive landscapes to identify opportunities and challenges for business growth.
Team Leadership & Coaching
- Lead, mentor, and develop the marketing team.
- Drive project execution in collaboration with sales and other marketing stakeholders, ensuring accountability and timely delivery.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders—including regional/global teams, commercial leaders, and key customers—to drive strategic initiatives and ensure alignment across the organization.
Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in a strategic leadership role within the Medical Devices or Healthcare industry, with strong exposure to marketing and business-related functions.
- Demonstrated success working with customers in the medical/clinical segment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver high-quality presentations.
- Advanced analytical capabilities, including business economics, financial analysis, and financial modeling.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, organize, monitor, and execute complex initiatives.
- Ability to engage, influence, and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization—from senior leadership to operational teams.
- Ability to contribute to and execute long-range regional strategies.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
