We are the engineers of possible: I Am Home at BD

For the past nearly six years, Vivek Garg has felt right at home at BD. This is not to suggest he is complacent in his role as a software engineer at the Software Technology Solutions India (STSI), it’s merely how he describes the vibe at BD and the work environment. Prior to coming to BD, he worked for four different companies for six years which were all IT Consultancy organizations.

“When I consider why I joined BD, it was because I knew I would be able to showcase my talent and grow with the organization. I was sure that if I was given the chance, I could help contribute to the company and I feel I have,” explained Vivek. “One of the reasons I stay with BD is that our company truly is committed to the growth of its associates. Throughout my time here, I’ve been encouraged to enhance my technical, leadership, and professional skills. This, in addition to our excellent and supportive culture, has led to a fantastic career journey so far at BD. I feel like I am at home working here.”

Facing Challenges and Seeking Opportunities

Vivek believes that with any role or career, challenges are to be expected and that by being proactive, planning, and utilizing critical thinking skills, it is possible to reduce the chance of issues cropping up or problems arising. 

“One recent example was one of my co-workers left the organization unexpectedly. She was charged with performance testing of a specific application, so I had to take that responsibility to learn it and step into supporting this business need,” said Vivek. “Using my analytical and problem-solving skills it was great to learn a new ability because this opportunity opened up. Now I am using this skill on a regular basis.”

One of the best aspects of his role is having the ability to work on a diverse range of tasks such as team management, performance testing, software engineering strategy, and more. Each of these areas provides a different challenge, which is where Vivek has thrived by applying a Growth Mindset. Facing these challenges has increased his level of creativity in problem-solving overall. Vivek also called out a Web Testing project where he not only felt excited by the work, but also by being able to make an impact and identify some areas of opportunity to shore up testing.

Advice to Others Thinking about Joining BD as a Software Engineer

Vivek calls out that some of the best things to do at BD are to learn all you can about the company, build your network, make use of your colleague’s experiences and skills, and focus on building a suite of experiences overall.

“Joining BD was a really great move for me, and I am very glad that I did,” said Vivek. “BD is a great company to join and learn new things, while maintaining work-life balance and achieving your professional goals. I would encourage any software engineer looking to make a move to strongly consider BD.”
