Anshul Shandillya
We are the engineers of possible: From India and Mechanical Engineering to Ireland and Systems Engineering
Ireland has become a significant hub of medical device innovation and technology – attracting tech-focused individuals from across the world.
It was this reason that Anshul Shandillya relocated from Gurugram, India, to the BD Research Center in Ireland (RCI). Anshul has been with BD for nearly four years, but has been employed in the MedTech industry since 2009.
“I wanted to continue working in the industry because it’s obvious that what I do impacts the health and lives of people positively. My motivation to come to Ireland was because of its reputation as a global hub for Research and Development in Medical Solutions,” explained Anshul.
A Career Move 7,417KM Away but Steeped in Possibilities for Growth
Anshul shares that moving to Ireland and joining BD RCI has been a great opportunity for him – professionally and personally. He says he is grateful for a company that truly stands by its values and appreciates the opportunity to work in an area that he loves, while being able to maintain a healthy work-life balance. “Although it was tough for me to move to a new country and settle here, my entire journey was made more comfortable by the hospitality of the wonderful people of this beautiful country. The people are very friendly and ‘great craic’.” NOTE: Craic – pronounced “crack” -- is a way to describe “fun.”
Prior to his current roles as a Systems Engineer, Anshul was trained as a Mechanical Engineer and held several technical leadership and project management roles. Right now, he is working within the Infusion Pumps Team with the Medication Management System (MMS) Business Unit.
“A typical day for me involves understanding user needs and working with engineers (Mechanical / Software / Electrical) to design and develop a system that comprises pumps and supporting desktop/server applications. I am also heavily involved in leading technical discussions with cross-functional teams that involve quality, regulatory, product security, technical publications, medical affairs, customer support, service, and many more representatives. We challenge each other, debate, take decisions and finally move forward to build products that are safe and effective for the customer,” noted Anshul.
Life working at RCI is Spirited and Supportive
When asked about what it’s like working at RCI, Anshul is quick to explain: There is a positive environment with a fabulous pool of multi-disciplinary and talented people. In addition to day-to-day work, the company also emphasizes areas such as Mental Well-being, Sports and Social, and Associate Resource Groups (ARGs), which are important for highly productive and engaged teams.
“I enjoy working on new technologies and one of my personal goals is to never stop learning. Working at BD provides me with these opportunities. The company also has a very strong rewards and recognition program (local and global level) which encourages associates to go above and beyond in their contributions to achieving our goals as an organization, which is great. It’s been a fabulous career experience and I look forward to continuing my journey with BD and advancing the world of healthTM,” concluded Anshul.
