Cristiani Golin Meroni

Over the last few months, we have shared dozens of makers of possible stories from around the world. Today, we turn to São Paulo, Brazil, for a Q&A session with Cristiani Golin Meroni, Director of New Business Development for Latin America, who celebrates more than 20 years of tenure with BD. Before starting her career with BD, Cristiani worked in the airline industry.
What was your first role like here at BD?
I was still completing my degree from Escola Superior de Propaganda E Marketing (ESPM) Business School, when I started as a marketing analyst at BD. My role was to understand and create a program that would offer the right solutions to our diabetes customers within BD (a business that was spun off from BD and is now called embecta). After five years of being in that role, I moved into a Sales position, and from there, my career story with BD began to unfold.
Of what role are you most proud?
That would have to be my first position in Sales as a people manager because I was able to contribute to the development of our people. As their leader, I was able to empower, inspire, and motivate them to bring forth extraordinary results as a team for the company. I was also the first woman to take on a Regional and National Sales manager role in Brazil. At the time I was also expecting my first and only child, therefore, for me this was, and will always be, a standout accomplishment.
What is a key differentiator for BD?
It has always been my experience that at BD, it is important to listen to the customer and patient needs. When I was the National Sales Manager in the BD Medication Delivery Systems business, we always created opportunities to hear from our customers and determine the best ways to accommodate their needs. So, it’s not just something we say, it is in fact a key differentiator and one that I often referred to when I was in Sales.
At BD, we practice our purpose of advancing the world of health ™ daily and are contributing to the development of healthcare professionals, as well as the evolution of clinical practices, and patient care. It is rewarding to see how work positively impacts millions of lives in the world every day. This motivates me to be a better leader for my team and makes me proud to be part of the BD team.
What is one of the BD values that most resonates with you?
We thrive on innovation and demand quality. Through the quality of our technologies and services, we deliver solutions and help transform patients' lives, creating value for our customers and supporting our associates. Aligned to this, I believe that innovation is the way we connect with our customers to drive healthcare forward and so we are constantly seeking to be more agile and effective in meeting the needs of our customers and patients.
What Makes You Stay at BD?
My values and those at BD are similar. BD is a place where we have the freedom to express our opinions, encourage change, and develop high-performance teams while respecting diversity and practicing inclusion – and always with an encouraging environment for development and creating opportunities for growth.
What do you tell your friends and family about BD?
My friends and family know that I am #ProudtobeBD. During my time in Sales, I networked with people who worked at many different companies, even many of our competitors. It never crossed my mind to go and work somewhere else. However, I asked many of the people I met there to join our team and they did and guess what? Not only did they join us, but many of them are also still with BD! When you come to BD, it’s hard to go to another company -- people want to stay here because there are opportunities here.
What do you like to do in your personal time?
I like to be with my family and friends, they are my fuel that encourages me to want to be a better person every day. I also enjoy traveling, practicing sports, as well as watching movies and tv series.
