When the weather is good in Ireland, you might just find Dmitry Nikitin fishing on the local lake or river in his kayak. Or perhaps he might be tinkering under the hood of his classic Mercedes-Benz car. During the work week, he can be found working on a different passion: software engineering for the BD MAX^TM System.

“I enjoy working for BD and I can see the direct link between what I do and how it positively impacts the customer and end patients. As I look back to the pandemic, I could see the benefits of BD MAX^TM System and its role in Covid testing around the world,” said Dmitry.

Former Aircraft Engineer turned Software Engineer

Prior to making a career change, Dmitry served as an aircraft engineer for a decade, working on routine aircraft maintenance. But as much as he enjoyed the work, he knew he wanted more from his career.

“I began as an aircraft engineer in Russia and then moved to Ireland. I changed careers because I wanted to do something new, something that would exercise my brain even more. I always had an interest in software development – even early on during my days at university. As I researched BD, I knew it was a large company that was really well-known in healthcare and serves a lot of patients. Plus, the company is very committed to R&D.”

Committed to BD

Dmitry hopes to have a long and tenured career at BD. He appreciates several facets of the company, including the culture, the sense of empowerment and continuous improvement mindset, as well as the efforts BD has in place to retain its associates.

“When I think about BD, I think the culture is good. I work in a multi-national company where even here in the Research Center in Ireland (RCI) we have a variety of different disciplines, multiple labs and more. People are encouraged to keep thinking about how to improve our products and solutions, which I appreciate. I think I work for an Employer of the 21^st century when I think of BD,” concluded Dmitry.
