Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Diagnoses and corrects any electrical, electronic and mechanical malfunctions which are beyond the capabilities of molding technicians and molding mechanics.

  • Diagnoses and corrects any control system malfunctions as well as installs, tests, repairs, and adjusts other electrical and electronic equipment such as recording, regulating, indicating and controlling instruments.

  • Repairs existing electrical parts and initiates purchase requisitions for components or supplies as appropriate.

  • Supports molding initiatives during the development of new or upgraded systems utilizing such technologies as Servos, PLC’s, vision systems, motor controls, molding equipment, and other related systems.

  • Supports molding personnel for machine repair and overhauls as needed.

  • Advises Parts Crib Attendant of parts needed for immediate use or for stocking locations.

  • Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled and provides input to supervisor on preventative maintenance improvements needed.

  • Proposes design changes to supervisor in the areas of equipment upgrade, problem elimination, quality improvements and reduced costs.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies/procedures.

  • Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Observes all safety, environmental and quality system standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education

  • A two-year degree from a technical school in electrical or electronic field is required,   Equivalent work experience with trade certifications may be considered in Lieu of degree.

Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in maintenance and troubleshooting electrical/control systems, is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy Work:  Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. 

  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Mental Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and understand English.

Equipment Use

  • Ability to operate a computer, fork truck, pallet truck, small hand tools, electronic test equipment, etc. in successful completion of tasks.  

  • Must be able to obtain a Fork-lift operator’s license. 

Working Conditions

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions:  Activities occur inside and outside.

  • Worker is subject to noise:  there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

  • Worker is subject to vibration:  exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

  • Worker is subject to hazards:  includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass.

  • Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions:  one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin:  fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

  • Worker is subject to oils:  there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
