The Clinical Manager oversees a team of Clinical Specialists in driving the Specimen Management value-added clinical support strategy. Through their team, the Clinical Manager implements clinical programs and initiatives that differentiate the BD product portfolio based on improved patient outcomes and process enhancements which result in a lower total cost.  The Clinical Manager is responsible for mentoring and coaching their respective team members in supporting customers through recommendations of standard process, collaboration with the sales team, facilitating education and the provision of effective conversion management and product implementation. The Clinical Manager broadly ensures appropriate clinical support across the field sales organization with an emphasis on workflow efficiency, clinical effectiveness, and cost containment.  The Clinical Manager must work collaboratively with the Sales Leadership Team to assure the team follows the established guidelines for Clinical Specialist engagement, while striving to meet the overall business objectives and organizational goals.

This is a field-based position and reports directly to the Vice President of Sales.  This position is a Job Group 5.

Job Responsibilities

As directed by the Vice President of Sales, the Clinical Manager role is focused on, but not exclusively limited to the activities outlined below:

Performance

  • Drives the clinical strategy within the commercial organization

  • Attracts, directs and supports a national team of Clinical Specialists in achieving regional and national objectives/goals

  • Leads high impact communications across a matrixed commercial organization

  • Collaborates and partners closely with Regional Business Managers (Sales Leadership) on regional priorities, customer focus and commercial execution

  • Measures performance of the clinical team through activity management, clinical assessments and commercial impact

  • Partners with the Vice President of Sales to develop strategies in providing effective and efficient conversion management, clinical education, and overall support for the sales team

  • Participates in the development of tools and/or collateral for the advancement of the clinical skills

  • Oversees the total SG&A for their team nationally

  • Strategizes with the commercial leadership team to improve processes and approaches for conversion management and product implementation providing support to the national field sales organization

  • Has oversight of major divisional clinical program implementations. Interacts with key accounts to facilitate opportunities for business growth and deepen customer relationships

  • Partners with the Clinical Marketing team to drive clinical value proposition, go to market strategy and commercial execution

  • Provides clinical support to National Account Managers in large IDN/GPOs

People/Process

  • Partners with the Sales Leadership Team to ensure the clinical strategy is an effective lever to commercial impact, retention and growth

  • Ensures support for the regional team in priority conversion management, validations, pre-sales engagements and account strategy

  • Coordinates Clinical Specialist training, including field rides and all on boarding activities

  • Participates in forums to share standard processes with Sales Development, Business Platform, Marketing, and Sales

  • Works in collaboration with the Sales Leadership Team in the provision of assessments, product, and process field sales training

  • Facilitates training activities that help increase the clinical competence for new hires as well as tenured Clinical Specialists

  • Coaches Clinical Team to elevate performance and competencies by conducting field visits

  • Provides ongoing performance feedback and/or remediation to Clinical Specialist including field rides addressing performance issues and evaluations

  • Directs management of Clinical Specialist advancement and promotion program

  • Tracks and reports on IIG/Compensation and conducts performance reviews.

Position Requirements

  • 10+ years of clinical (BSN, MSN, CIC) or laboratory experience

  • 3+ years of managerial/leadership experience

  • Excellent collaborative and team skills required in navigating cross functional matrix environments

  • Good relationship building development skills

  • Demonstrated managerial courage

  • Persuasive and credible; able to influence without authority

  • Works in a safety-conscious manner ensuring that safe work practices are used in order to not pose a risk to self or others

  • Aligns with company policies and procedures

  • This position requires the ability to travel up to 75% of the time and flexibility with working hours

  • Incumbent must have and maintain a valid driver’s license

  • Proven or strong potential skills in coaching, developing, and guiding direct reports

  • Ability to deliver constructive feedback in an effective manner

  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence

  • Ability to manage multiple customers and strong organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal guidance and supervision

  • Ability to prioritize assignments. Strong time management skills

  • Has basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
