Summary:

BD's Software Technology Solutions (STS) organization is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and scale cloud-native applications and enterprise data solutions that support critical healthcare and business initiatives. This role combines software engineering, cloud architecture, and data engineering expertise, requiring ownership of large-scale distributed systems across AWS, Linux, and Windows environments.

The successful engineer will work across the full technology stack, partnering closely with product, architecture, and engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and customer-centric solutions. This individual will lead technical design efforts, drive architecture decisions, establish engineering standards, and mentor team members while remaining actively involved in coding and solution implementation.

The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with deep expertise in Java, AWS, and distributed systems who has successfully designed and implemented large-scale enterprise applications. They are comfortable balancing strategic architectural leadership with hands-on development, possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and thrive in collaborative Agile environments. Experience within healthcare or other regulated industries is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-based software applications and data platforms.
  • Architect and implement solutions that integrate disparate enterprise systems and data sources.
  • Design conceptual, logical, and physical data workflows that support business and operational needs.
  • Lead cross-functional design sessions to gather requirements and define technical solutions.
  • Establish and promote software engineering, data engineering, and architecture best practices.
  • Drive long-term architecture roadmaps aligned with business and enterprise technology strategies.
  • Conduct code reviews and design reviews to ensure quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Ensure application performance, availability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with product and user experience teams to deliver customer-focused solutions and make appropriate technical trade-offs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.
  • Educate and influence stakeholders on modern software and data engineering approaches.
  • Lead engineering efforts in a fast-paced Agile environment and guide teams through successful feature delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building and supporting large-scale software applications.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions within AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience owning and designing complex enterprise-scale system architectures.
  • Strong hands-on software development experience with Java.
  • Experience developing applications and services in cloud and/or on-premises environments.
  • Experience with distributed systems, scalable application design, and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with unit testing and integration testing methodologies.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software solutions within healthcare, medical technology, or regulated industries.
  • Proficiency with Go programming language.
  • Experience with modern data engineering platforms and cloud-based data architectures.
  • Experience with stream-processing and batch-processing technologies.
  • Experience migrating enterprise platforms from on-premises environments to cloud-native architectures.
  • Knowledge of enterprise data integration patterns and large-scale data workflow design.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, SOX, PCI, and data protection requirements.
  • Experience creating engineering standards, governance frameworks, and architecture best practices.
  • Track record of driving technology modernization and enterprise-scale transformation initiatives.
