Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Process Safety Leader to oversee High Hazard (HH) and Process Safety Management (PSM) programs across our Covington and Madison facilities. This role is responsible for driving a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate requirements, and partnering cross-functionally to identify, assess, and mitigate process-related risks.

Responsibilities

Process Safety & Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate process hazards through effective risk management strategies and safety programs.
  • Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for existing and new processes, ensuring timely resolution of findings and recommendations.
  • Evaluate new and modified processes, equipment, and facility changes to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide oversight of the site's Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure operational and safety risks are properly assessed and controlled.
  • Manage the site PHA schedule and drive implementation of corrective actions and recommendations.

Program Development & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve High Hazard and Process Safety Management (HH/PSM) programs.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including both leading and lagging metrics, to measure program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable EHS regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain technical expertise in HH/PSM requirements and proactively assess the impact of evolving regulations on site operations.

Incident Prevention & Investigation

  • Lead and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents, process upsets, and near misses across both facilities.
  • Oversee and conduct Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) for new and modified processes, equipment, and capital projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve process safety performance and prevent future incidents.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities, and Operations teams to develop and evaluate maintenance strategies for high-hazard operations and specialized equipment.
  • Collaborate with site teams to implement EHS and PSM-related procedures, programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a site representative during interactions with regulatory agencies, permitting authorities, and insurance providers.
  • Participate as an active member of the broader HH/PSM network, sharing best practices and driving standardization across the organization.

Training & Leadership

  • Develop and deliver technical training programs to strengthen site knowledge and compliance with HH/PSM requirements.
  • Mentor site personnel and provide guidance to leadership teams on process safety and risk management matters.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and continuous learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Process Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3 years leading EHS processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with fourteen elements of Process Safety Management (PSM and the EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule).
  • Minimal travel to other company sites, as well as professional conferences may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years in a PSM or RMP regulated environment.  
  • Experience in Fire Loss and Prevention activities including involvement with insurance carrier.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. 

  • The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment required to perform this job safely.

  • Will be working with Flammable Liquids, Ethylene Oxide Sterilizer and possible combustible dust.
