Job Description Summary

As a toolroom engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of metal working machines (mills, grinders, lathes, CNC 3 Axis mill) as well as power tools and general toolmakers tasks.

You will be manufacturing, maintaining and repairing jigs, developing process improvement ideas alongside the Engineering team. You will work directly with the engineering group to maintain and improve processes.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Continuous Improvement: Use problem-solving skills to recommend and implement improvements that boost tooling availability, enhance performance, improve quality, and reduce waste.

  • Design and Fabrication: Create and commission new jigs and fixtures to improve our production processes.

  • Workload Management: Prioritise tasks to ensure prompt response to breakdowns and timely completion of planned preventive maintenance (PPM) activities.

  • Tooling Maintenance: Conduct repairs on press tooling, jigs, fixtures, and machine parts to keep production running smoothly.

  • New Product Support: Assist with new product introductions by ensuring equipment and processes meet operational requirements.

  • Problem Analysis: Analyse tooling issues, identify root causes, and establish effective PPM and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) plans.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all activities using our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Spare Components: Source and procure spare components required for tooling and equipment maintenance.

  • Production Support: Collaborate with Production teams to ensure daily production targets are achieved.

  • Maintenance Assistance: Provide support to Maintenance Engineers with breakdowns, repairs, PPM, and installations on other factory equipment as needed.

  • Excellent attitude towards Health & Safety and good working practice.

  • Maintain line performance and carry out improvement actions.

  • Interpret engineering drawings to conduct repairs, modifications and creation of parts/jig fixtures.

  • Ability to work to fine tolerances (imperial & metric measurements) and use appropriate measuring equipment (verniers, micrometres).

  • Maintain a very high level of housekeeping at all times in the workshop and around machines.

  • Maintain good communication with your colleagues at all times.

  • Adhere to company policies, systems of work and procedures at all times.

About you:

  • At least a Level 3 qualification in Engineering with up to 5 years experience within a manufacturing company, toolroom workshop.

  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications and mechanical systems.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to solving problems with a clean, neat and tidy approach to work.

  • Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a larger team.

  • Motivated to learn and develop skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • CAD Knowledge is a distinct advantage.
