Senior Scientist, Reagent and Assay Development

BDB’s Reagent & Assay Development Group focuses on providing differentiated reagent solutions that uncover truths in biology and medicine. Teams of hardworking scientists and engineers are responsible for initiating and driving the reagent and assay development projects and integrating assays and flow cytometry instruments to create the next generation of research and clinical Flow Cytometry platforms. Products include cell analyzers, cell sorters, reagents, assays, and software.

We are seeking a candidate who can bring experience of clinical flow cytometry workflows to assist in new assays and reagents development. Uses independent judgment to adapt and modify standard reagent development techniques to solve difficult reagent challenges. Executes experiments independently and evaluates, discusses, presents and explains material of moderate to high complexity. Works under general direction, but independently resolves and defines approach to solutions. The candidate will be bringing a strong continuous improvement approach to reduce development cycles and streamline technology transfer from R&D into operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently craft experimental approaches to assess viability and feasibility of new reagents and assays

  • Prepare and coordinate the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and analyses of R&D projects.

  • Maintain strong understanding of state-of-the-art science and technology development in the industry.

  • Perform data analysis and reporting of flow cytometry clinical samples across a variety of cytometry assays.

  • Provide technical expertise, leadership and support for flow cytometry operations for assay/result troubleshooting.

  • Participate in streamlining processes related to PIRs and CAPAs to reach a rapid and effective conclusion.

  • Plan/participate in the sustaining projects, lead troubleshooting and risk assessment activities.

  • Effectively coordinate with other functional areas associated with the R&D activities, including Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Medical Affairs, Business Development, etc.

  • Participate in interactions with regulatory agencies. Provide technical input into safety and regulatory interactions.

  • Write and review standard operating procedures and policies for the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Immunology or related biological science:

    • Master's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience, OR

    • Ph. D. with some relevant industry experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a clinical research setting, clinical/diagnostic laboratory, or pharmaceutical/biotechnology R&D environment

  • Demonstrated expertise in sample preparation and experimental design for multi-parameter flow cytometry applications

  • Proven experience training laboratory personnel and leading projects

  • Extensive hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting flow cytometers

  • Strong knowledge of experimental procedure design and literature research capabilities

  • Current, in-depth knowledge of flow cytometry, immunology, and cell-based assays

  • Excellent communication skills (listening, written, and oral)

  • Self-motivated with strong learning agility and sense of urgency

  • Willingness to perform hands-on laboratory work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic) product development

  • Knowledge of leukemia, lymphoma, and/or cancer biology

  • Familiarity with clinical and/or research laboratory environments and quality control procedures
