Job Summary:

As the Line Shift Supervisor, this role will manage a small group of associates in an engaged manner and own performance for the output of a line of molding machines for the assigned shift. Guide team activities of the line by mentoring associates on a continuous improvement (BD Excellence) path in their daily manufacturing tasks and efforts.  Ensure that standards for safety, quality, production, cost, 5S, defect tracking, preventative maintenance (PM) and overall policy compliance are followed, through timely recognition and/or performance management. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and effective communication. Regular, punctual attendance is a key job function, as well as the ability to read, write and speak in English.  Must be willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Job Responsibilities:(Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)

1. Promptly address any safety issues or incidents.

2. Responsible for staffing, such as hiring and training plans within line for assigned shift.

3. Manage attendance, scheduling, and ensure coverage for all assigned areas.

4. Provide regular, timely, specific feedback and corrective action to associates. Speak up when     witnessing any GMP, PPE, and safety violations.  

5. Ensure an open flow of communication exists between production associates and management.   Represent concerns of production associates to management, as well as management concerns to production associates.

6. Support timely resolution of quality and personnel issues on the line, demonstrating servant leadership and adhering to BD Values.

7. Proactively anticipate and address problems before they impact production.

8. Prepare and run Tier 1 production meeting and ensure alignment with the Line Centric Organization (LCO) team. Ensure communication and smooth progress between shifts.

9. Ensure fair and consistent application of company and departmental policies and practices. Works with associates to resolve employee relations issues and concerns; involves HR when needed.

10. Ensure that daily check ins are completed as expected and cycle times, down time, down occurrences, scrap rates, other goals and information are updated on the Primary Visual Display (PVD).

11. Ensures that all line resources are properly focused to support any quality or line issues as they occur.

12. Required to spend 100% of their time out on the production floor except for when required to attend necessary meetings, hold regular and annual performance related conversations with associates.

13. Lead and participate in monthly team meetings.

13. Ensure all root cause analysis are conducted timely and appropriate corrective actions are    implemented. Champion process improvements and ensure that changes associated with Continuous Improvement (CI) activities are implemented consistently in their area.

14. Communicate results and raise issues to the Molding Area Shift Leaders.

15. Responsible for accurate Kanban management.

16. Monitor team members to ensure compliance to task docs, standard work, and the quality plan.

13. Look ahead at upcoming changeover and have supplies, tools and documentation, labels and any other necessary supplies and paperwork ready. 

16. Expected to run presses to cover for Operators as needed when there is a business need.

17. Perform other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Education and Experience:

This position requires:

High School Diploma/GED

Preferred qualifications include:

BA/BS Degree – Science, Industrial management, Business, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Manufacturing Experience: (if applicable)

Indicate the minimum level of experience required: 

  • 1 year of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment required.

  • 1 year of people leadership experience preferred.

  • 1 year of injection molding experience preferred.

Basic Knowledge and Skills: (if applicable)

Work Environment: (if applicable)

  • Minimal makeup, no fake eyelashes, acrylic or polished nails must be covered with gloves. No exposed jewelry (including wedding, tongue and other rings). Clothing should be clean and in good repair. Torn or tattered clothing is unacceptable. Pants or jeans that are severely worn, frayed or too long and drag on the floor are unacceptable. They increase airborne particulate and can act like dust mops. Midriff or halter tops are not allowed. Within the manufacturing areas, legs must be covered.

  • SMOKING/Vaping/Tobacco use - BD is a smoke free campus. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on BD property.

  • Personal Protective Equipment must be worn and will include a hair net, smock, safety toe shoes, safety glasses, and provided hearing protection. This associate may be expected to stand for long periods of time during their shift.
