Job Description Summary

Reports directly to the Quality Manager, Quality Labs and Sterility Assurance. This position has supervisory responsibility for the Incoming Quality area as well as the Chemistry, Gel and Rubber Quality Laboratories. Conducts experiments, inspections, statistical analysis, and investigations to address manufacturing issues and customer complaints.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepares samples and performs chemical and physical analysis on incoming raw materials.
2. Analyze test results on raw materials to assure conformance to BD specifications.
3. Performs test as required by BD specifications, such as, but not limited to the following:

• Qualitative & Quantitative Analysis

• Density

• AA, FTIR, UV, GC Analysis

• Rheology

• Hardness

• Colorimetry

• Viscosity

4. Performs necessary testing of liquid and solid VACUTAINER Tubes additives to assure that BD specifications are met.
5. Maintains current and accurate records on all tests performed. Writes reports on analysis, investigations and projects.
6. Maintains stock of supplies required to perform all tests as required. Calibration and validation of instruments.
7. Maintains incoming inspections, laboratory equipment, records, calibration, training, and materials.

Minimum Requirement:

• Degree level qualification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Prefer a Bachelor's degree in a science field especially Chemistry

• 2-5 years of supervisory experience in a Laboratory setting

Work Environment:

• BD is a smoke-free campus.  Smoking and the use of electronic smoking devices, marijuana, or tobacco products are not allowed on BD property, grounds or in the parking areas.  We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy

• False eyelashes, press-on fingernails, and Jewelry is not allowed on the production floor including dermals.  Any associate wearing dermals will be required to cover them while working on the production floor. 

• Shoes are required to be Steel Toe and non-slip for all associates while on the production floor for safety purposes.
