This is an in-office position. Candidates who live in the Warwick, RI or the Vernon Hills, IL area can be considered. Relocation assistance is not available.

About the role:

As the Senior Manager of Marketing Research, you will play a mission‑critical role in shaping the future of the Surgery Business Unit at BD. This position is ideal for a Customer Insights or Marketing Research leader who thrives on translating complex market, customer, and competitive dynamics into meaningful direction for innovation, portfolio strategy, and commercial decision‑making.

You will serve as the organization’s strategic insights partner—leading advanced research programs, elevating customer understanding, and ensuring BD brings truly differentiated solutions to surgeons, clinicians, and healthcare systems around the world.

Key responsibilities include:

Lead the Insights Strategy

  • Own and advance the Insights & Analytics agenda for key BD Surgery platforms, ensuring insights directly enable long‑term growth and strategic success.
  • Champion customer‑centricity across the business unit by relentlessly bringing the voice of the customer and the external market into strategic conversations.

Run Best-in-Class Research Programs

  • Design and execute world‑class primary and secondary research programs to uncover unmet needs, size opportunities, and guide product development.
  • Develop clear, strategic opportunity frameworks rooted in customer, market, and clinical insight.

Drive Business Influence

  • Partner closely with Marketing, R&D, Business Development, and regional teams to build integrated learning plans aligned to key business issues.
  • Translate insights into compelling recommendations that influence portfolio strategy, positioning, pricing, segmentation, messaging, and innovation roadmaps.

Deliver Forward-Looking Market Foresight

  • Anticipate how technology shifts, competitive trends, healthcare economics, and stakeholder needs will shape future market opportunities.
  • Provide proactive “market sensing” that informs long‑term strategic planning.

Tell the Story Behind the Data

  • Communicate insights through clear, influential storytelling—leveraging dashboards, visualizations, and executive-level narratives to drive understanding and action.
  • Ensure insights are socialized effectively across teams through presentations, reports, and strategic discussions.

Serve as a Thought Leader

  • Stay up to date on leading-edge research approaches, methodologies, and tools.
  • Elevate BD’s insights capabilities and foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making.

About you:

You are passionate about turning data into strategic advantage, influencing senior leaders, and driving business impact. You have proven success influence cross functional partners and excellent communication skills. You can manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities and have a drive for continuous improvement.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 6 years in Customer Insights, Marketing Research, or Strategic Analytics.
  • Experience executing and synthesizing primary and secondary research and the ability to build integrated multi-method learning plans.
  • Strong business judgment and the ability to apply research through a commercial lens.
  • Deep command of Marketing Research methods (qualitative and quantitative), including experience with advanced analytics such as volumetric forecasting, MaxDiff, TURF, and choice-based methods
  • Must have Vendor management experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree
  • Experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or OTC
  • Global research experience is a plus.
