Job Description

Position Summary:

The Procedural Specialist promotes BDI Surgery Advanced Reconstruction & Repair (AR&R) products to customers and potential customers through clinical support and education within a defined geographic area and as directed by the Regional Business Manager.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Educate and train physicians, hospital personnel and hospital staff on technical matters relating to AR&R products through case support, conducting and/or coordinating one-on-one in-servicing, and/or available internal/external physician education training programs.

  • Coordinates with field sales, the logistics, timing, duration, strategy and execution of field level customer training and technical support of clinical cases.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with customers (surgeons, PA’s, general surgery coordinator, OR manager, nurses, scrub techs), hospitals and physicians. Obtains new users and applications for company products and services.

  • Observes and reports market trends which affect AR&R sales, service and product development.

  • Maintains relationships with the Region Manager, Territory Managers, ATMs and customers.

  • Represents BD in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Processes customer complaints and returns in accordance with established procedures and policy. 

  • Maintains company automobile and company property.

  • Complete and processes BDI reports including but not limited to: Procedural Specialist reports, expense reports, monthly product tracking reports and complaint reports in accordance with established procedures and policies.

  • Fulfills the duty of a Territory Manager in vacant territories and supports AR&R procedures as directed by the Regional Manager.

  • Other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree highly preferred; or minimum of 6 years equivalent relevant work experience with High School diploma

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in the Operating Room or procedural areas (eg. ICU or PACU experience).

  • Surgical and procedure knowledge, adequate to support clinical cases.

  • Medical and surgical terminology; basic anatomy knowledge.

  • Current credentialing and / or certification in respective clinical discipline.

  • Advanced knowledge of surgery, and experience with general or plastic surgeons preferred.

  • Experience in the hernia space.

  • Ability to work in a face-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to maintain numerous priorities and meet established deadlines.

  • Self-motivated, takes on additional responsibilities, and manages priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote), PowerBi, Salesforce (SFDC), and Showpad.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to others through clear writing and speaking skills.  

  • Ability to travel 60-80%, including multiple overnights.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company. Driving records may be monitored on an annual basis or as needed.

  • Must possess and maintain a criminal background satisfactory to BD. Criminal backgrounds may be monitored on an annual basis or as needed.

  • Must be able to meet and maintain customer/medical facility access requirements, including regular or periodic drug screenings with a satisfactory result in accordance with the requirements of the customer/medical facility serviced.

  • Maintain vendor credentialing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Considerable time spent on a daily basis standing and walking around large hospital environments.  Standing 6+ hours a day will be common.

  • This position may involve pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting.

Work Environment:

  • Home based position with extensive travel.  Travel will range up to 60 - 80% overnight travel typically within a defined region.  Position requires flexible working hours--especially early mornings and may include some nights and weekends.

  • Must live near a major US airport that serves as a hub to limit connections.

Salary ranges have been implemented to reward associates fairly and competitively, as well as to support recognition of associates’ progress, ranging from entry level to experts in their field, and talent mobility. There are many factors, such as location, that contribute to the range displayed. The salary offered to a successful candidate is based on experience, education, skills, and actual work location. Salary ranges may vary for Field-based and Remote roles. ​

$104,700 - $167,500 Base + incentive
