Our vision for BD Interventional and Peripheral Intervention at BD
BDI focuses on developing innovative surgical, endovascular, urological and critical care interventions that not only meet clinical needs but also deliver value to health systems and improve patients’ lives. 2 out of 3 selected surgical, peripheral and urological interventions use a BD device, aimed at advancing the treatment of high burden diseases and enabling surgical and interventional procedures.

Peripheral Intervention (PI): Offering a comprehensive range of minimally invasive solutions and devices to diagnose, treat, and manage progressive and often undiagnosed diseases like cancer, end stage kidney disease, and peripheral arterial disease. The BDPI approach includes game-changing technologies, clinical education, disease awareness programs, and market access efforts to help clinicians, institutions, and advocacy organizations to advance the future of treatment and minimize the impact of these diseases on patients.

Job Description

Overview of the role:

The Senior Business Director - Peripheral Intervention - Europe is a management role that reports directly to the VP/GM BDI Europe, indirectly reporting to the WW BU President, PI. This position will lead the three-year strategic, operational, and financial plan for PI in Europe and full PNL ownership of about $350M.

As a member of the BDI Europe Leadership team and the related WW BU leadership team, the new joiner will establish, develop, and implement the PI Strategy. This strategy impacts sales, marketing, and support for the Business Unit in Europe. They will work closely with Country Business Leaders.

Leading a team of 20 people, including Market Development, Marketing, Sales Force Efficiency, and Commercial Operations, you will coordinate the downstream marketing activities for the PI Business Unit in the countries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with CBLs to establish, refine, and apply sales, marketing, and support tactics for the BU in Europe.

  • Collaborating with the VP/GM BDI Europe to develop the three-year strategic, operational, and financial plan for the BU in Europe. Achieving the annual plan and performing analysis of new markets and opportunities.

  • Be aware of market conditions, pricing trends, and the efficiency of pricing actions. Advise the process owner on new and existing pricing plans to ensure regional pricing harmony and local competitiveness.

  • Responsible for carrying out the annual operating plan, including achieving sales, gross profit, and expense targets for the respective BU in Europe.

  • Collaborate with CBLs, BU & BDX ComEx Lead, and global platforms alongside VP/GM BDI Europe to identify new opportunities for BD’s product development funnel. Ensure commercial success for new product launches.

  • Work with CBLs to determine, establish, and manage regional product pricing corridors and policies, while considering local market factors for sales of the respective BU products across Europe.

  • Take part in the company's marketing and LT planning programs for the BU. Provide oversight and make decisions on activities. Marketing Managers, BDX Marketing, and CBLs support these efforts to create promotion campaigns and marketing materials.

  • Collaborate with all parties to ensure product portfolio management includes suitable services, product launch, communication, pricing, and business development.

  • Identify acquisition targets in the region that may provide an instant, obvious impact on BD's profit margin and growth rate in the region.

  • Collaborate with CBLs to help country organizations improve their go-to-market strategy, encouraging customer centricity and building solutions that position BD as a healthcare advancement partner.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive sales and marketing reporting systems to supervise crucial BU KDGs.

  • Develop and put into action a BU focused strategic marketing and business development plan together with the CBLs & Marketing teams.

  • The PI Senior BU Director will collaborate closely with European Marketing Council to ensure alignment and consistency within the BU strategy and the BDX key priorities.

  • Responsible for upstream communications to the BU and downstream implementation of marketing and sales strategies through the Marketing team and CBLs in Europe.

About you

  • Significant experience in both Sales and Marketing, including a proven track record of guiding teams to achieve higher performance.

  • Relevant proven experience in the medical devices' market.

  • Proficiency in marketing, selling and new business development skills.

Additional Qualifications

  • Previous working experience with general management and P&L responsibility, either in Global or regional business leadership role

  • Strong track record of business / commercial success in a health care environment.

  • Experience in organizational change and change management.

  • Solid knowledge of European healthcare system, environment and its key partners.

  • Experience and/or capability to collaborate effectively with external leaders and key influencers.

  • Solid understanding across multiple functional areas.

  • Master most BD personal best leadership proficiency attributes in particular, strong external and customer orientation and ability to identify business opportunities.

  • Strong personal credibility and integrity, foster a culture of constructive dialogue

  • Translate strategic direction into execution – action orientation and drive for results

  • Build coalitions of support behind their strategic direction

  • Successfully motivate change in matrix environment with multiple partners.

  • Encourage and empower peers and direct teams – build a strong regional team.

  • Attract, develop and export key talent, leading high-performing teams through times of change.

  • Shown ability to build senior-level executive relationship in the clinical diagnostics' segment, adjacent industries and relevant trade federations at a country or European level.

  • English language proficiency required, multiple languages an asset.

  • Willingness to frequently travel across the region, visiting customers, meeting the different internal teams, and attending conferences and external events.
