The Senior Engineer is a key contributor within BD’s Digital Engineering – Simulation & Testing (DE S&T) organization, supporting the development of current and next-generation medical technologies through advanced computational modeling and simulation. Under the general guidance of a Staff Engineer and in close collaboration with cross-functional partners, this role applies physics-based modeling tools—particularly computational fluid dynamics (CFD)—to evaluate, optimize, and improve design performance.The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, self directed engineer who thrives in a fast paced, collaborative environment. This individual brings strong analytical and problem solving skills, adapts quickly to evolving project needs, and is driven by a passion for applying engineering expertise to help BD advance the world of health.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities:(Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)
- Complete advanced engineering analysis and numerical modeling in support of different BD business units’ product development applications.
- Perform computer simulation studies for highly diverse fluidic applications utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software (Ansys Fluent, Ansys CFX, OpenFOAM).
- Learn and conduct analyses in other forms of physics-based computer simulations
- Utilize additional engineering software tools (i.e., Matlab, and Python), in conjunction with CFD tools, to develop optimal solutions and obtain a more in-depth understanding of engineering problems.
- Maintain state-of-the-art analytical and numerical competencies through training courses, seminars/webinars.
- Interact with product development and R&D teams to leverage engineering fundamentals and DE tools for improved part, product, and/or technology performance.
- Summarize findings from the physics-based simulations and recommendations into presentations / formal technical reports
- Thorough, accurate, and timely completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Adherence to all BD policies and procedures as well as any laws where applicable.
- Effective written and verbal communication with management, project teams, and multifunctional personnel on a timely basis.
- Work independently to identify actions needed to complete assignments and demonstrate strong drive for results.
- Manage assignments in accordance with project prioritization
Education and Experience:
- Either B.E / B.S Degree in Engineering or related field. An engineering degree specializing in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, or Biotechnology is preferred, and a minimum of 4 years of industry experience.
- Or M.E / M.S. degree in Engineering + Minimum of 2 years of industry experience
- Industry experience using computational fluid dynamics analysis software, preferably ANSYS Fluent, or OpenFOAM
Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced knowledge in CFD tools for diverse fluidic applications, with experience in non-Newtonian, multi-phase, and/or transient fluid dynamics, is preferred.
- Proven ability to make individual contributions while collaboratively functioning as part of a larger team.
- Eagerness to continue expanding current skillset and work on a broad range of challenging engineering problems.
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical professionals to inform decision-making.
- Familiarity in using three-dimensional CAD solid modeling software packages, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience with multi-phase and/or transient fluid dynamics is a plus.
- Effective written and verbal communication with management, project teams, and multifunctional personnel on a timely basis.
- Work independently and collaboratively to identify actions needed to complete assignments and demonstrate a strong drive for results.
- Collaborative mindset that can work effectively and contribute to cross-functional teams across BDX
- Demonstrated experience applying machine learning techniques is a plus.
- Work closely with cross‑functional team members within TCI to drive and deliver new projects.
- Collaborate with Digital Engineering (DE) teams within TCI to showcase and advance DE capabilities.
Physical Demands: (if applicable)
The role also involves extended periods of computer use for simulation work, data analysis, and documentation.
