Job Summary:

The Applications Specialist role is a Technical/Application training position that is responsible for conducting comprehensive user training on BD Molecular instrumentation platforms to achieve customer proficiency and self-sufficiency.

This role provides expertise throughout the sales cycle, collaborates with Technical Service and Support teams, and actively participates in sales and marketing programs. The position requires strong application knowledge to uncover customer needs, implement customized solutions, and ensure rapid adoption of BD platforms. The role also involves documentation development, compliance activities, and providing technical input for new product development.

The Applications Specialist must display competencies in Sales/sales support, Guiding/training, Project Management, and Mastery in Customer Focus. To succeed in this role, a positive demeanor and ability to communicate organizational vision is key. The incumbent will have effective interpersonal and communication skills, Integrity in customer and cross-functional team interactions and willing to work well in diverse team environment. The desired candidate should be based in the SoCal region located in or around LA County as well as those based in the Southern Nevada area.

Responsibilities:

Technical/Application Training

  • Conduct comprehensive user training on BD instrumented platforms
  • Train BD associates on instrumented platforms as necessary
  • Uncover customer needs and implement customized solutions
  • Contribute to laboratory workflow productivity and efficiency
  • Collaborate with Technical Service and Support and Field Service teams
  • Provide expertise during all stages of the sales cycle
  • Engage in regional Sales and Marketing programs
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures
  • Provide product knowledge and technical input for Research and Development
  • Drive implementation process and full utilization of BD platforms

Documentation Development & Compliance

  • Collaborate to develop training programs and SOPs
  • Ensure fulfillment and improvement of field-related job aids and technical documentation
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation

Sales and Marketing Support

  • Conduct product demonstrations at trade shows, workshops, and customer sites
  • Provide technical input to Marketing Managers
  • Assist sales associates with customized presentations

Technical Input to New Product Development

  • Support new assays and products prior to formal launch
  • Work with cross-functional teams for product launches

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Sciences, or Molecular/Microbiology
  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in a clinical hospital or reference laboratory setting
  • Good understanding of technical and workflow aspects for molecular instrument platforms
  • Familiarity with regulatory agencies and quality procedures
  • Experience demonstrating effective training, Teaching, educating, and presentation abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with Technical and Application support
  • History of Demonstrated project management, instructing, and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 80% as needed)
  • Ability to be on call during evenings/weekends as needed
  • Valid state-issued driver's license that meets BD's auto safety standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Prior experience in a Field based role/work structure- Traveling between areas and clients.
  • Training in "Train-the-Trainer" methods and adult educational methods desirable
  • Understanding of computer software applications and Laboratory Information Systems
