We are the creators of possible: Strategic Marketer with her “sights” on the future

Jessica Pryor is living proof that you can accomplish anything in life.

Armed with undergraduate degrees in marketing, entrepreneurship, and political science, she started her own business at the age of 13.  She also holds a master’s degree in business administration. She loves working at the intersection of marketing and technology. And she is a single mom raising two active boys.

Jessica is one of two Senior Managers for the BD HealthSightTM Solution, a suite of enterprise pharmacy analytics solutions that help to reduce medication errors and waste, while connecting disparate systems to create visibility across the healthcare system and providing actionable insights for patient care.

“I support the entire sales journey – from identifying a segmentation strategy, to supporting sales with value-added assets, to sales trainings on messaging, competition, segmentation and product knowledge, to identifying and creating case studies, testimonials and referenceable clients – all in an effort to ensure our salespeople have what’s needed to sell successfully,” explained Jessica. “I enjoy having these diverse, sometimes entrepreneurial, responsibilities.”

Successful Teenage Entrepreneur

Jessica shared that she was raised by two small business owners and every summer her parents would have her and her brother read business books. The intent was to teach them early on about how to see pain points and inefficiencies as an opportunity to think smarter, bigger, and better – and how to turn those ideas into a business, which Jessica said was “pretty amazing.”

She shared that high school was a super busy time with extracurricular activities like sports, National Honor Society, student council and more. Years of summers with business books paid off as she approached her parents for a business loan to start up a brick-and-mortar store re-selling gently used clothing.

“I hired friends to run the store, plus I was able to fulfill a need in the local community – selling clothes to those who may not have been able to afford new. I grew up in a small town and not everyone had the means to buy new, trendy clothes,” she said. “This early success validated my passion for business, and I was often tapped to go speak to students at local schools about what it was like owning my own business. Years later, one of the young girls who heard me speak at her school went on to buy my business the summer after I graduated, which was really satisfying.”

Why BD?

Jessica has been with BD for a little over a year. One of the reasons she joined the company was because she wanted to use her healthcare software experiences from Cerner Corporation and Hillrom/Baxter to grow the software side of BD – an already well-respected hardware company. A big attraction to BD was the vibe she got when speaking to the recruiter.

“I had heard good things about BD and the culture within. When I met with the recruiter, I wanted to make sure the conversation was as much about whether BD was a good fit for me as it was about me being a good fit for the company. I truly cannot say enough about how awesome the BD culture is,” noted Jessica.

“During my interview process with marketing leaders, I was able to understand BD’s vision and what was expected of my role; I knew I could contribute to the vision by sharing my SaaS expertise and entrepreneurial perspective. I looked forward to applying my business and entrepreneurial mindset to BD’s growing software technology to better position BD HealthSightTM and other BD software within the Medication Management Solutions business as a leader, ahead of the curve and our competitors.”

Fan of baseball, music, and being a mom

Jessica’s days are filled with work she loves, supporting BD sales processes and customers, but also enjoying baseball, concerts, and supporting her two sons’ busy school and sports schedules.

“My boys (ages 5 and 7) are my everything. They both play soccer, baseball, basketball, and track, and one sings and the other plays guitar and drums. We are active. It’s not uncommon for us to be out playing basketball/catch before school/work and riding bikes around town after school/work. We go to concerts. We travel. I am so grateful for the work-life-balance BD provides. Honestly, this is the best company I’ve ever worked for, in large part thanks to the leadership I report to, and I am very grateful to be here. I’m excited to see what the future holds at BD,” concluded Jessica.
