The Senior Director, Program Management Office (PMO), R&D for MDS is a pivotal member of the MDS R&D leadership team and a key driver of cross-functional program execution for the MDS business.The Senior Director of PMO will lead a multifaceted organization comprising project and program managers from various product platforms and significantly influence the direction of virtually all product platforms and projects within the MDS organization. This role involves close collaboration with commercial colleagues to develop innovative products that solidify the company’s market-leading position and expand into adjacent areas to serve customers more broadly while driving for sustaining excellence of existing portfolio.
Working with Business Leaders, Functional Leaders, and other R&D Leaders, this role ensures smooth integration of business and technologies. This leader is hands-on when required and skilled in evaluating and developing strong leaders aligned with strategic goals.

The Senior Director of PMO will lead a multifaceted organization comprising project and program managers from various product platforms and significantly influence the direction of virtually all product platforms and projects within the MDS organization. Focus areas:
Excellence in Execution: Drive standard processes and optimize the R&D portfolio from innovation through product lifecycle management.
Standardized Best Practices Deployment: Implement and maintain standard methodologies.
R&D Portfolio Optimization: Optimize investments in the R&D portfolio to drive efficiency and ensure delivery of MDS goals.
Development of PMO Associates: Foster a strong foundation and commitment to continuous improvement and development of the PMO team.
Primary Functions:
Program Execution Management: Oversee projects from idea to market and through the product lifecycle management.
Project Execution Dashboards & Process Discipline: Maintain discipline and track execution through regular reporting and cadenced leadership meetings.
Portfolio Management: Strategically manage the R&D portfolio prioritizing in partnership with platform leaders both resources and projects.
Strategic Review Preparation & MC Support: Prepare for strategic reviews and other high level leadership meetings.
Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively ensuring both teams and projects have the adequate support from the PMO organization.
Financial Management: Manage program/project finances, while helping to support the MDS R&D budget planning, forecasting and management activities.
GPDS Adherence: Ensure compliance with GPDS processes.
Innovation Management Partnership: Partner with the innovation function for advanced development execution.
Primary Focus and Success Factors for role:
Product Development: Lead the process from design through commercialization and into product lifecycle management.
Design Control & Quality Focus: Maintain strict and best in class design control and quality standards for the entire portfolio.
Program & Portfolio Management: Align and prioritize projects within the portfolio to achieve the overall MDS goals.
Strategic Partnerships: Develop and manage partnerships, including contracting and outsourcing.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Project Planning & Goal Setting: Align projects and goals with cross-functional management and MDS leadership.
Project Execution & Governance: Ensure excellence in project execution and governance.
Cross-functional Integration: Lead the integration of plans and resources for product and technology portfolios working in partnership with cross functional leadership.
Delivering Results: Ensure timely and successful delivery of the product development portfolio.
Collaboration: Work with key functional partners to drive innovation and identify growth opportunities while maintaining portfolio execution excellence.
Budget Management: Manage capital and operating budgets, hitting key achievements, and enhancing organizational capabilities.
Specific Activities:
Product Lifecycle Management: Support lifecycle management of existing products, ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and cost improvement.
New Product Development: Lead the development of the next generation of products, ensuring technical rigor and effective governance.
Innovation: Collaborate with teams to feed the new product development funnel, manage external relationships, and set an aggressive pace.
GPDS Champion: Drive the effective teaching and application of the Global Product Development System, ensuring timely completion of milestones, budget adherence, and fostering innovation and teamwork.

Professional Experience and Qualifications
Medical Device Industry Experience: Minimum of 12 years in product development and leadership, including leading a PMO for a complex product portfolio of a $1B+ business.
Comprehensive R&D Experience: Employ modern, lean product development methodologies across large multidisciplinary teams.
Collaborative Track Record: Demonstrated effective collaboration with various partners, including the clinical community.
Educational Background: Undergraduate degree in engineering or a related field; an advanced degree is advantageous.
Team Building and Development: Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain talent, with a strong focus on coaching and mentorship.

12+ years in product development, progressively taking on higher levels of responsibility and leadership. Significant experience in managing new product development projects within a matrix organization.
