Mourad Mrabet
We are the supporters of possible: From Dubai to Mississauga, Ontario for Finance Manager
Mourad Mrabet and his family are still getting used to winters in Canada – even his Maltese dog named “Blanca” is getting used to snow and colder temperatures.
You see, Mourad made an internal move within BD from Dubai to Ontario in 2022, to keep progressing his career as a Finance Business Manager, supporting BD Interventional.
“I joined Bard in January 2015 covering the Gulf Region for all products and solutions as a Finance Manager and really enjoyed my time there because the region is still very much growing and a bit in flux some days, so each day would bring new challenges, which I find very exciting to work on. I moved from Dubai to Ontario and even after two years of living here, my family and I and Blanca are not quite used to such cold weather,” joked Mourad.
As a Finance Business Manager for BD Interventional, Mourad helps oversee the financial health of the business unit, including analyzing financial reports and identifying opportunities to reduce costs, making strategic recommendations to help overcome specific financial issues or supporting general financial decisions, among many other things.
Tunisia, France, and More
Mourad speaks French, English, Arabic and Italian fluently. He was born and raised in Tunisia, in a small town in this Northernmost African country.
“It was simply an amazing place to grow up. Such an incredible history as part of the Roman and Ottoman empires, French, Italian, Spanish, and Viking influence as well. Such influence over the culture, which was wonderful growing up learning about and seeing it first-hand,” said Mourad.
Mourad would go on to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Institut Superieur De Gestion (ISG) de Tunis and then moved to Bordeaux, France, to attend the Université Montesquieu-Bordeaux IV and earn his master’s degree in business administration. Upon graduation, Mourad spent time with a Big Four accounting firm in Tunis for a handful of years, moving onto become a finance manager at an investment banking and private equity firm for almost four years and another similar organization after that until he came across BD and an opportunity in Dubai in 2015.
“When I started with the BD office in Dubai, it was pretty small – about 10 of us in total, but it’s grown quite a bit over the years,” said Mourad. “After BD acquired Bard, I took on responsibility for more countries in MENA region and a larger scope, which was exciting. I was drawn to the company because healthcare is a stable, but growing industry and people need our products and solutions to receive the care they deserve. BD is well respected in the industry, and I feel very respected as an associate of the company. The People Managers at BD treat you professionally and I’ve had several good managers here.”
Why join (and stay) with BD?
Mourad shared that BD is a place where your career ambitions can take you far and it’s also a place where learning never stops. “There are numerous tools, resources, and programs here at BD to grow your career. If you communicate you want to learn and grow in a certain area, you have almost unlimited opportunities here.”
The other aspect of BD that is unique is the availability of networking across time zones with colleagues. “We rely on our business partners to have conversations and help provide counsel and advice to them from a financial perspective, which also allows for networking opportunities across BD, which I appreciate,” said Mourad.
Lastly, Mourad called out that the culture at BD is very powerful in wanting to remain with the company. “The BD culture is collegial and supportive, not cutthroat, which is helpful from day-to-day in getting work done and assisting each other,” he said.
In his personal time, Mourad enjoys spending time with family, his dog Blanca, as well as watching soccer on TV and playing pick-up soccer in and around the local area.
