I. Position Summary
The Dir, BD Excellence Learning Development will be responsible to lead the end-to-end design of global learning programs and curricula that support the BD Excellence Academy. This role will design scalable, high-impact learning experiences across multiple modalities, including virtual, in-person, and on-the-job (Gemba), that enable a culture of continuous improvement, Lean thinking, and leadership capability across BD’s global business units.
This role will collaborate cross-functionally with leaders and stakeholders to design future-forward learning curricula that build BD Excellence capabilities across the enterprise at scale.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in learning curricula design, enterprise scale learning development and is energized by the opportunity to shape BD Excellence and build a culture of continuous improvement.
II. Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities will include:
Design, develop and implement cohesive BD Excellence learning programs and curricula, including core, advanced, and certification-level tracks.
Translate BD Excellence tools (e.g., Kaizen, Problem Solving, Visual Performance Management) into actionable, learner-centered programs across global audiences.
Partner with SMEs to co-create experiential, high impact learning programs, incorporating adult learning theory, microlearning, and blended modalities.
Incorporate knowledge checks, simulations, and assessments into programs to drive application and behavior change.
Develop and implement train-the-trainer programs and certification pathways for facilitators.
Build a global network of certified BD Excellence trainers.
Create scalable instructional design and development process (with tools and templates) that includes learning content governance and ensures consistent learning quality and local adaptability across regions and business units.
Define and implement a learning evaluation and metrics strategy to enable assessment effectiveness and evolve programs based on feedback, business outcomes, and learning analytics.
III. Education
Bachelor’s degree required
Masters in Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Education, or related field preferred
IV. Experiences
10+ years of experience in corporate learning design, with at least 5 years in a leadership or learning architect role.
Deep expertise in adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, curriculum development, and graphic design.
Proven experience designing enterprise learning programs, ideally in a Lean/Continuous.
Strong understanding of digital learning platforms, learning ecosystems, and blended delivery strategies.
Demonstrated success in implementing learning measurement strategies tied to business performance.
Experience working in a complex global matrix organization and designing for diverse cultural audiences.
Proven track record of Learning Agility, taking on new projects and roles and demonstrating success within an accelerated timeframe.
Possess high level of intelligence, integrity, energy, and business judgement with demonstrated growth mindset, and a proven track record in L&D excellence and leadership with substantial experience driving change initiatives
Demonstrated ability to gain followership and drive results through change in a matrix organization.
Strategic agility, with conceptual thinking, and sound business acumen are essential. Advanced ability to use a broad range of methods, assumptions, frameworks, and perspectives when solving problems and making decisions.
Possesses a bias for action, courage to drive through change and has a reputation for getting things done.
Advanced project planning and management experience, including the ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1–2 years), and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the business plan.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate a complex, matrix organization, the ability to effectively convey new concepts, tools and strategies with the ability to effectively tailor communications according to the audience.
Excellent facilitation & communication skills both in person and virtually. Ability to hold individual’s attention, create excitement, and hold all team members responsible for outcomes.

V. Knowledge and Skills
Preferred Knowledge & Competencies
Experience in a regulatory environment (FDA) or field within Healthcare, Med Tech, Pharma or Life Sciences is preferred.
Strong knowledge of lean principles is preferred. Certified practitioner in lean tools is highly desirable.
Certification as a trainer and as a facilitator.
Adult Learning: Theory and Practice: Advanced experience in applying concepts and practices of adult learning to meet the dynamic needs of the business
Learning Needs Analysis: Advanced experience in assessing competency gaps and identifying what people need to learn for successful individual and organizational performance
Learning Design and Development: Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for designing and developing a solution.
Learning Delivery: Knowledge of methods and alternatives for delivering learning programs.
Learning Evaluation: Knowledge of methods, tools, and techniques for evaluating the effectiveness and impact of learning programs.
Proven experience succeeding in a role where the team expects you to be the expert.
Ability to adapt to changing business environments.
