Job Description Summary

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and hands-on intern to join our Medication Management Solutions / Software Technology Solutions team as an Integration Architect Intern. This role is ideal for a transitioning service member passionate about embedded systems, systems engineering, and healthcare interoperability. You will contribute to the design, development, and testing of end-to-end solutions that span embedded devices, connectivity infrastructure, and hospital information systems.

This internship includes hands-on exposure to safety-critical system design, real-time operating systems, and interoperability standards (IHE, HL7, FHIR), all within a highly collaborative and regulated development environment.

PLEASE READ: This role is considering only SkillBridge program candidates that are transitioning military service members. The BD SkillBridge Fellowship Program provides opportunities for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through individual Fellowships during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of software for embedded medical devices and their integration with external systems such as hospital EMRs.

• Support implementation of interoperability protocols (e.g., HL7, IHE PCD, FHIR) in safety-critical environments.

• Participate in defining and refining system-level requirements and architecture for device-to-cloud connectivity.

• Contribute to test tools and simulation environments for interoperability and system validation.

• Collaborate with system and software architects to incorporate regulatory guidance and standards (e.g., IEC 62304, FDA).

• Write clean, maintainable code in C++ for embedded development and Python or Java for back-end and integration tasks.

• Engage in end-to-end system design, problem-solving, and feature development.

• Work closely with product management, architecture, sales, and marketing teams to gather and refine requirements.

SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation or benefits from BD, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. After successful completion of the program, there may be an opportunity to be considered for a full-time position, depending on business needs.

Minimum Requirement:

• Degree level qualification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
