Position Summary
The BD Excellence Business Operating Model Lead will be responsible for implementing and optimizing lean methodologies to enhance operational and organizational efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall productivity. This role involves analyzing current processes, identifying areas for improvement, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. This role will be partnering with various departments to ensure the successful deployment of operating models and processes that align with the company's strategic objectives. This individual will develop and install best in class business systems practices that improve day-to-day process rigor and efficiencies. In addition to developing and installing best in class tools, this individual will also be responsible for driving a continuous improvement culture across BD.
Reporting to the Vice President of BD Enterprise Process Excellence, this strategic role focuses on driving transformative process improvements to deliver critical business objectives
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities will include:
Support the definition and implementation of the Business operating mechanism which is the structured processes and systems that an organization uses to manage and sequence its day-to-day operations to deliver value to its stakeholders.
Design Operating Models: Develop comprehensive business operating models that support the organization's strategic goals.
Implementation: Lead the deployment of operating models across different business units, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruptions.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure the operating model meets those requirements.
Training and Support: Provide training and ongoing support to employees to ensure successful adoption of the new operating models.
Performance Monitoring: Track the performance of deployed operating models and make necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement changes to enhance the operating model.
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of operating models, deployment processes, and any changes made.
This role will be responsible to support the development and deployment of new BD Excellence foundation tools and processes, which will be used to drive improvement across BD, with a key focus will be on visual and daily management.
Partner leadership to strategically deploy the developed tools and processes throughout BD globally. Goal is to drive sustained adoption of the BD Excellence tools so that become part of the essence of how BD delivers results.
Partner with BD leaders across BU’s and Functional teams to drive adoption of BD Excellence tools and to actively solve critical issues.
Use bowlers, key performance indicators, and action plans to drive and provide visibility of performance via metrics.
Take a hands-on approach to support the Business Units in solving mission-critical problems that require an “all hands-on deck” approach.
Become a certified practitioner in problem solving and kaizen methodology. Utilize tools as facilitator of problem-solving/kaizen sessions across all areas (commercial, innovation, operations, functions).
Serve as a thought partner to the BD and BDX leadership teams, supporting the adoption and deployment of BD Excellence tools and mindset across departments and regions.
Be a change champion in the development and deployment of BD Excellence tools and mindset
Partner with BD Excellence leaders, functional experts and VP of BD Enterprise Process Excellence to develop BD Excellence took kit, including roll-out of tools in a prioritized fashion.
Be an expert (can teach and execute) in the BD Excellence fundamentals of Visual Management (VM)/ Daily Management (DM), Problem Solving Process (PSP), and Kaizen.
Drive BD Excellence education by providing broad coaching and trainings. Support the development and roll-out of the BD Excellence Advanced Practitioner and Certified Practitioner programs, in partnership with the BD Excellence Learning & Development team.
Education
University bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or a related field is required.
MBA or equivalent business experience preferred.
Experiences
Three (3)+ years proven experience in a company with continuous improvement culture and the core tools of visual management, problem solving, and kaizen Significant career experience in an organization where a business system is part of the culture and the core tools of visual management, problem solving, kaizen are embedded in all aspects of the business.
Strong knowledge of lean and six sigma business systems is preferred. Certified practitioner in lean tools is highly desirable.
Extensive experience in a metric driven role where success is operationalized, and continuous improvement is a way of life.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, experienced in using tools such as MS Excel proficiency and has SAP knowledge.
Change champion. Ability to drive culture and change. BD Excellence is new to most functions in BD and this individual will need help to drive the change management journey
Adept at both hands-on, detail-oriented tasks and strategic, big-picture thinking, with a strong emphasis on process orientation.
Demonstrated ability to gain followership and drive results through change in a matrix organization
Entrepreneurial mindset. Individual who can drive progress with limited oversight.
Action oriented individual who is highly proactive at solving problems and obtaining results.
Proven experience in business process management or a similar role.
Strong understanding of business operating models and their deployment.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Excellent facilitation & communication skills both in person and virtually. Ability to hold individual’s attention, create excitement, and hold all team members responsible for outcomes
The capacity to plan, organize, & complete projects on time. Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and deadlines
True love of continuous improvement, measuring results, and problem solving
Demonstrated success in driving business impact through CI and Kaizen initiatives, particularly in a commercial organization and under fast-changing environment.
Knowledge and Skills
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
Experience in a regulated field with Healthcare, Life Science or Diagnostics as a plus
Experience in Manufacturing. Has spent real time on a factory floor
Knowledge of lean methodologies and continuous improvement practices. Lean Six Sigma or Business System certifications
Experience in a role that requires extensive travel to go to Gemba
Proven experience succeeding in a role where the team expects you to be the expert. Demonstrated ability to coach and drive outcomes.
Experience in a Commercial role/setting. SFDC, Power BI, and Miro experience a plus.
Ability to adapt to changing business environments.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, c.50-70%.
