Job Description Summary

The Sr. Staff Quality Engineer - BD Excellence & Program Mgt Leader reports to the Director Quality Continuous Improvement Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS). She/he contributes to the development of strategy and tactics required to achieve plant/business unit/function objectives in the MDS (Medication Delivery Solutions) business unit. The role has a responsibility for providing BD Excellence CI and Program Management leadership, and support through use of project management, CI best practices and KAIZEN. Through outstanding communication; effective problem solving, critical thinking and active management of ambiguous situations; the role ensures meeting all business and customer expectations. Success is measured in terms of the ability to execute and implement projects/programs, frequency, and scale of resolving organizational issues, as well as business process effectiveness and implementing improvements. Through stakeholder engagement the Senior Staff Engineer Quality - BD Excellence Continuous Improvement and Program Management Leader achieves measurable results supporting BD’s KDGs (key business drivers) and local MDS business objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate or lead KAIZEN events in quality, manufacturing, commercial, R&D etc.
  • Lead sophisticated multi-functional programs/projects, define landmarks, schedule, budget/resources, and project risks, drives programs/projects to successful completion.
  • Through PM standard methodologies collaborate to develop local/global strategies, tactics, and implementation plans.
  • Continuously evaluates progress, schedules to meet objectives for customers, MDS and BD business needs.
  • Establish tracking metrics, record measurable results of programs/projects, CI initiatives in terms of BD and MDS business objectives, process efficiency/effectiveness, customer satisfaction, financial and non-financial benefits.
  • Develop and maintain program/project dashboards and other mechanisms to communicate and track progress, to update leadership, collaborators, teams including issue escalation and resolution.
  • Understand, navigates, and lead through the challenges of change management.
  • Lead by influence, collaboration as opposed to direct reporting authority, accepts concepts of Level 5 Leadership.
  • Collaborate with MDS Business, Quality and Central Quality on key BD strategies, tactics, and objectives e.g., KDGs, Inspire Quality, BD Excellence Quality Component etc.
  • Develop and maintain an influential and effective networks with peers and leadership.
  • Actively handle key collaborator relationships; plants, design centers, and functions for win-win solutions.
  • Work with all functions, organizations to drive programs/projects and CI initiatives (Central Quality, Operations, QE/QS, MA, Finance, R&D, Marketing, RA, PM).
  • As part of the MDS CI team, develop continuous improvement strategies linked to key business objectives, identifying improvement opportunities to evaluate, propose and implement process improvements.
  • Benchmark internal and external organizations. Identifies, implements, leverages, guides, and transfers best practice knowledge to the organization.
  • Assist functions in utilization of BD Excellence CI tools and standard process problem solving models i.e., BD Excellence Quality Component, Lean-Six Sigma, 8D and KT problem solving models, Design for Six Sigma desirable.
  • Collaborate with BD CI network across BD segments and organizations that support the deployment and anchoring of CI capabilities across functions and sites.
  • Assist in handling and delivering effective training and certification for BD Excellence and CI methodologies, problem solving tools.
  • As needed, support plant and customer related quality issues, sustaining engineering, new product development projects for problem solving, root cause analysis, constructive challenge, and improving business/Quality processes.

Education / Experience:

  • BS/MS Science or Engineering

  • 10+ years’ combined experience in program/project management, continuous improvement, manufacturing, quality engineering, product development, research & development, environments.
  • Fundamental knowledge of project management practices (scoping, planning, scheduling, risk management, budgeting, financial analysis).
  • Proven ability to lead people by influence, facilitate and close projects to meet business goals.
  • Preferred Certifications can be any combination of the following: Project Management (PMI or CAPM), Certified Agile-Scrum Master, Manufacturing Six Sigma Black or Green Belt, Design for Six Sigma (desirable not required), Lean Leader, Certified Facilitator, CQE etc.
