Reporting to the VP of Public Affairs, the Regional Lead is an integral part of the Public Affairs team. This role will strengthen and execute on key policy, market access and government relations strategies aligned with the goals of BD Canada.
The Regional Lead will identify and execute on activities that shape key legislation, policy priorities, and government relations activities. This role will be instrumental in increasing access through the public reimbursement process within their designated region
Within this role, the Regional Lead will lead and coordinate participation in political and policy legislative initiatives. Specially, the Regional Lead will be expected to work in partnership with key decision makers, policy makers and stakeholders in the province(s) as a way increase access for innovative medical technologies.
As a key contributor, the Regional Lead will bring the external perspective to collaborate, inform and identify key opportunities within the region to support strategic planning aligned with their regional commercial partners.
Responsibilities
In depth understanding of health system planning to drive adoption and uptake of key BD priorities and goals.
Creates and seeks out opportunities to engage with relevant stakeholders including government, political parties, industry and associations.
Provides guidance in establishing BD as trusted partner and collaborator to the provincial policy makers.
Provides subject matter expertise related to political landscape, develop reimbursement strategies and drive opportunities to enhance timely access for medical technologies.
Ability to monitor, analyze and develop action plans in shifting health system landscapes.
Collaborate with colleagues to prioritize and identify key areas of work within identified provincial health system.
Liaise with regional counterparts to assist with shared learnings, integral strategies, and priority planning activities.
Internally, work in cross functional capacity to deliver key outcomes to advance BD Canada priorities.
Working with Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) partners, drive data acquisition and Health Economics modelling – evidence generation
Participate in various stakeholder committees to assist with health system shaping and planning (including regional participation at Medtech Canada Committee).
Key Qualifications:
- BScH, BA or MBA in Business, Public Policy, Health Policy, Political Science or Equivalent; advanced degree desirable
- 5-7+ years relevant experience in GR, Public Policy or working in Government, Strategic Affaires
- Experience in Health Economics, Government Lobbying or direct government
- Key Competencies, skills and experiences:
- Working knowledge of Canadian government systems coupled with political savviness
- Thorough understanding of healthcare systems, health policy, and considerations for health technology in Canada
- Ability to quickly develop relationships with policymakers and thought leaders
- Ability to effectively educate and negotiate with political and bureaucratic officials
- Working knowledge of Public Policy Development
- Lobbying experience
- Strategic Agility and strong written and verbal communications skills that have been leveraged with external stakeholders, internal stakeholders and senior leadership
- Execution and results orientation
- Bilingual is an asset
- This is a Field-Based role with overtime & travel required as necessary
- Ideal Candidate will reside within Western Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a past clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years; as well as meet BD's auto safety standards
