Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Manager or Senior Manager, Associate Manager provides direct management of technical staff. The role contributes to setting the tactics required to achieve departmental and plant/business objectives. Through outstanding communication: effective problem solving and active management of ambiguous situations, Associate Manager ensures product safety, product quality and compliance with all relevant global regulations and customer expectations. Success is measured in terms of the frequency and scale of product quality and organizational issues. Through stakeholder engagement, and people development, the Associate Manager produces durable and industry leading results supporting key business drivers. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engage with the local business and associates toward the effective promotion of organizational goals.

  • Proactively identify and work through obstacles that may hinder associates from focusing on and delivering their individual impact goals.

  • Ensure the plant/functional quality organization is staffed, organized and resourced to fulfill its obligations and to comply with applicable regulations and procedures.

  • Mentor and develop department personnel, including dedicated succession planning and contingency management.

  • Function as the technical leader within the competencies managed by the department(s).

  • Continuously evaluate departmental progress toward tactical goals and objectives adapting them to meet customer and business needs.

  • Development and implementation of best quality practices.

  • Manage customer impacting issues; prioritizing quality and compliance minded solutions that uphold the company and its standards.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communication and collaboration with all levels of employees.

  • Pursue and maintain a functional knowledge of global regulation affecting the local business.

  • Contributes to the attainment of budget goals by managing department spends, may manage a formal budget.

  • Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

  • Ensure the plant/functional quality organization is staffed, organized and resourced to fulfill its obligations and to comply with applicable regulations and procedures.

  • Development and implementation of best quality practices.

  • Contributes to the attainment of budget goals

Position “Specific” Overview

  • Manage assigned functional groups within the Quality Organization (example: Quality Systems, Asset Care, or Quality Operations).

  • Lead root cause investigations, including Situational Analysis (SI) where defective product has escaped BD Control.

  • Be a process advisor for investigations.

  • Author and review investigation reports.

  • Coach and mentor organization and key investigators on proper investigation skills and methodologies.

  • Prepare and deliver root cause investigation and technical writing training materials and deliver training to BDM-PS personnel.

  • Provide support for ISO inspections and customer audits.

  • Provide regular updates to the plant leadership team regarding events, deviations and investigations

  • Identify gaps in critical elements of the Quality System or production process and recommend actions.

  • Provide support for sites ISO inspections.

  • Provide guidance, coaching and feedback for associates

Supervision:

  • Other people leaders: Small Team 1-10 Associates

  • Exempt Associates: Small Team 1-10 Associates

  • Hourly Associates: Small Team 1-10 Associates

Minimum Education :

  • Preferred : BA/BS Degree –Science, Engineering or other relevant field

  • Required : Associates Degree – Science, Engineering, or other relevant field with a minimum of 10 years experience working in a Quality rôle.

Minimum Experience :

  • 5 years’ experience in relevant discipline

  • 5 years’ technical experience

  • 3 years’ experience in direct supervision

Proficient/Working KSA:

  • Team Building skills

  • Communication skills

  • Problem Solving skills

  • Quality Systems knowledge (cGMP and ISO)
