Job Summary:
The Engineering Technician will work with the leadership of BD’s Digital Engineering group and 3D Printing & Prototyping team. This is a position where the Engineering Technician I will provide quality “finished” Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printed models and/or components/fixtures to business customers in a safe and timely manner.
The Technician must effectively collaborate with team members, local and remote, from varying backgrounds and seniority levels. They should have good oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have a passion for 3D Printing with a drive to learn and grow.
Job Responsibilities:(Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)
Clean SLA 3D Printed models according to defined standard operating procedures.
Hand finish SLA 3D printed models using defined techniques while maintaining feature geometry and checking tolerances on key dimensions.
Use precision measurement devices (i.e. – digital calipers, GOM) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
Operate SLA 3D Printing equipment when performing routine and rotational maintenance on a regular schedule to produce highly accurate medical device prototypes in a timely manner.
Maintain proficiency in viewing model files using CAD software (i.e. - Magics by Materialise).
Maintain finishing supplies in the laboratory and evaluate special supplies, techniques, and equipment that may be beneficial for quality model finishing.
Perform work following standard operating procedures.
Work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices, observe all BDT Safety and Quality Standards, and maintain laboratory notebook according to BDT Standard Operating Procedures.
Wear proper safety equipment where required.
Under the direction of the 3D Printing & Prototyping Manager, contribute as needed in the R&D of 3D printing applications.
Minimum Qualification:
High School Diploma or equivalent experience
6 months to 3 years relevant hands-on industry experience with proven ability to perform SLA model finishing, industrial SLA 3D printer operation, experimentation, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
MS Office (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Experience or technical capability in operating 3D printing equipment. Examples include Stereolithography (SLA), Carbon (DLS), DLP, PolyJet 3D Printing, and Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). Strong preference on experience with industrial SLA 3D Printing.
History of being accurate and time-oriented in previous roles
Proven experience collaborating and contributing to multidisciplinary teams.
General knowledge of safety protocols in a laboratory setting.
Experience in a fast-paced work environment to adapt quickly to changing priorities and tasks in the lab.
Clear verbal and written communication skills to provide updates to upper management and BD partners about 3D printed parts.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot post processing 3D printed parts.
Preferred Qualification:
Associates degree or equivalent experience in S.T.E.M
Experience with Digital Calipers or similar measuring devices.
Experience with SLA 3D printing post-processing methods.
Experience with effective packaging and shipping practices.
Familiarity with CAD software
Open to exploring new techniques related to 3D Printing or Digital Engineering-related areas.
