The Sr. Director LS BD Excellence Innovation will be responsible for partnering with LS R&D teams to drive process excellence within the field of Innovation.  This individual will work with R&D leadership across PMO and engineering disciplines to develop and install best in class business systems practices that improve NPD OTD, reduce develop time, improve quality, and save costs. In addition to developing and installing best in class tools, this individual will also be responsible for driving a kaizen and continuous improvement culture across the LS R&D organization.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop, implement, and manage new innovation tools and processes, which will be used to drive improvement across the innovation and development process. Key focus will be on schedule compression, improved OTD, cost reduction and improved quality.
• Work with senior leadership to strategically deploy the developed tools and processes throughout the global LS R&D organization.  Goal is to move from new tools to tools that become part of the ethos of how BD develops products.
• Work with LS R&D leadership to develop core competencies within each BU R&D team to drive continuous improvement and a Kaizen culture without segment oversite.
• Establish certified practitioners in each BU in the utilization of R&D process excellence tools, including Visual Project Management, Problem Solving and Kaizen
• Establish new tools to monitor R&D performance that clearly identify where issues exist so they can be problem solved quickly
• Drive the art of problem solving, using a Toyota based approach to creating paretos and developing actions to solve key issues (80/20 rule)
• Evaluate and implement new process and technologies for LS information sharing that maximizes the LS collective to drive quality across each BU
• Work across the BDX R&D organization to take BD best practices and outside best practices to deliver clear standard work that can be utilized by each BU R&D team to drive Innovation excellence
• Refine R&D Tollgates to ensure alignment with key technical and commercial requirements
• Proactively champions a culture of data driven decision making across BD life sciences, including training, coaching, and mentoring associates on best practice methodologies and toolsets.
• Serve as a change ambassador to drive organizational awareness and adoption of newly developed tools and processes.

KSA Requirements (Knowledge, Skill, Abilities)

• Ability to facilitate complex cross-functional meetings and initiatives that achieve and sustain desired outcomes.
• Excellent communicator who can drive clarity of thought and change through influence

• Strong work ethic, with proven experience demonstrating learning agility and an entrepreneurial mindset
• BA/BS or equivalent in, life science, engineering.
• 10+ years of experience within the life science, diagnostic, Med Tech industry in an R&D/Innovation role
• Experience working with teams on the development of highly analytical equipment
• Extensive experience working in or across multiple divisions within an organization (commercial team, scientific team, business team).
• Multiple years (5+) of leadership experience in managing/leading teams globally.
• Significant experience with the implementation of best-in-class Innovation tools, including Visual Project Management, Kaizen and Problem Solving
• Highly effective communication with excellent organizational skills
• Outstanding analytical skill set and background.
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience presenting to senior leadership in a concise manner
• Strong experience working with diverse technology platforms.

Desired Skill / Experience

• Certification in Business systems and Lean Tools
• Certification as a trainer or facilitator
• Experience working to solve quality challenges in a “Tiger Team” environment with tight time frames and pressure
• Experience in a regulatory environment (FDA)
• Masters in engineering (Nice to have)
