Packaging Maintenance Technician

Job Description Summary

Reports directly to Engineering Manager or to the Production Supervisor. This role includes machine operator responsibility and maintenance of AutoPak equipment. This includes performing routine set-up, operation, minor and major routine maintenance, preventative maintenance (PM), and troubleshooting for the AutoPak area. Must project positive attitude working with a team. Effectively works in a team setting, supporting team goals and objectives. Makes effective decisions relative to position requirements. Uses judgment to plan, perform, make decisions, troubleshoot, and solve problems in performance of all the maintenance tasks. The opening is to support the PPM High Volume Third shift operation from 10pm to 6:30 am Monday - Friday. Training for this position will be on 1st shift Monday to Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm

Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine set up, operation, minor and major routine maintenance, preventative maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting of highly complex/automated manufacturing equipment. Controls and adjusts machine settings for AutoPak equipment

  • Responsibilities include production, quality, downtime and waste levels of machine operation. Perform mechanical, pneumatic and electrical maintenance (including preventive) repairs, adjustments, inspection and monitoring of production and/or facilities related equipment and machinery. 

  • Works within standards and operating procedures to plan, perform, and make decisions regarding the set up and operations of a variety of production equipment, including automated machine processes and controls to perform routine assembly-line production functions of filling, packing, assembling, labeling and inspecting

  • Independently run multiple lines including setting up and managing change overs

  • Provides operator support all across the assigned business operation.  Must have the capability and flexibility to provide support where is needed.

  • May perform clean up functions in sterilized areas

  • and evaluate charts, follows simple diagrams, testing, and inspecting procedures

  • Conducts root-cause analysis activities for process or product exceptions

  • May monitor quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

  • Ensures accurate documentation of all relevant quality, safety, and maintenance documents. Identifies, fixes, and resolves complex issues associated with the machine performance and/or product quality.

  • Works with general supervision. 

  • Works with external contractors and vendor as needed

  • Demonstrates the ability to follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • Aligns with all BD housekeeping policies and procedures

  • Follows all BD safety policies and procedures

  • Available to work overtime as required to meet BD business requirements

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • At least 2 years of proven experience in the relevant field.

Knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • Use of a PC including MS Excel & MS Word.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrate electrical aptitude
  • Demonstrate hydraulics, pneumatics aptitude
  • Ability to use multimeter
  • Sensor technology
  • Basic plumbing (fluid and pneumatic)
  • Power transmission (gear box, motors, belt and chain drives)
  • Basic machining
  • Electrical troubleshooting of circuits from low level signals up to 480 VAC.

Additional experience preferred:

  • Troubleshooting of Industrial Control Systems (instrumentation, ladder logic, relay logic, vfd, servo etc.)
  • Proven knowledge and proficiency of PLC operations, robotics, and vision systems.
  • Mechanical design (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • SAP maintenance module or equivalent computerized system (welding)
  • Basic skills in use of mill, lathe, welding, bearing press.
